Some dream of independent publishing, others dream of passive income. Our motives differ, but the goal remains the same.

I've always doubted that SEO actually works. I thought "oh, no, Google would appreciate my kickass content." While that may still be true, there's no way in hell you should ever ignore the power of backlinks.

As a fellow newbie, I have to share this with you.

Apparently, I placed a link on 17/12/2019.
I work haphazardly sometimes, and don't record much of what I do. While I was going back, analyzing some stuff, I noticed what happened with the article that generates most of the traffic I have on a certain website. Here's the view from the Search Console:

For some reason, that's how the link affected my website.
That's just ONE link, to ONE article... and it did this.

Newbies, SEO works.

Let me go back to my lab.

Show your links page in webmaster, then we can understand how much link you are pointing to website.

How do you know its from that link?

The website was stale before then. The statistics I'm showing are for that single article.
I placed the link on the day previous to that jump.

Connect the dots, I guess.

Great job at finding a site thats relatable to yours and posting a link. The traffic source is too notch.

The recent update has confused a lot of people atleast something positive to hear :)

Hmm not sure this is the biggest discovery for newbies or @Meddie discovery that YouTube videos rank higher in search engine cause it’s a google property now :p

It's not a discovery, and it's not related to the latest update.
I just want newbies (like me) to know it by heart that backlinks work.

I always knew, just needed my own little proof.

What are the metrics (DA, PA, DR) of your backlink?
What kind of link is it (PBN, Guestpost, parasite)?
What is your anchor text (brand name, keyword, generic)?
Does the site with the backlink has traffic?

You could say it's a parasite, which surprised me.
It has traffic.
Just the url.
