My site has no ad's and has the best content hands down in it's niche.

I've sank without trace whilst my rivals who still use recip linkings have shot up.

My site is co.uk and home improvement. No PBN links.

I hate Google (though the traffic it brings is quite good)
 
Google didn't touched my site in December and January updates. I lost 40% traffic in march. Now again google hammered my site. Now it's just 150+ organic clicks.
 
Jesus! I got hit badly by COVID because I have mainly tourism websites. Then we got that Amazon commission cut. And now another wonderful Google update. What a month!

At least I was happpy to see in websmater tools a few days ago one of my 2 main websites receiving very nice natural backlinks from an university and a TV channel.
Well I put back the Champagne in the fridge quickly, it went down with the update. Fucking whitehat BS. No more financial loss because COVID already took everything but the come back I expected will be harder. PBN still work if you don't force on anchors. The pages receving those backlinks stay quite stable. And authority websites can do whatever they want on their page and receive no backlink, they will rank high whatever their content. It is boring ; good editorial content doesn't protect you from a good crash. I see many good blog articles, who don't do much SEO, leaving the first page to be replaced by poorly made authority ecommerce pages.
Since updates after Penguin, I don't really see quality improvements in SERPS, almost the opposite. They introduced those stupid sponsored links because the bot is still unable to recognize paid links, PBNs and other things.

More than ever : diversify, diversify, diversify. And it is good to take various SEO roads on various websites to limit the variance. I will keep pretty clean on some (although I will pay for a few quality links) and go dirtier on others.

Not yet to be honest, but few things I have started to change for my own site - I've read a lot about it and trying to change the following:

  • EAT - ppl speak a lot about it. Especially for a news site, I was providing foreign fake contact details on my policy site. I believe that was wrong, I will adapt that to my real details in Germany. My concern is - I am a public person with a lot of contacts and it may harm my reputation (even though I don't post fake news etc lot of ppl hate all this corona movement in Germany and believe its all kinda conspiracy, tin foil blabla)
  • EAT again - I've added an ABOUT "Sitename" page which describes what my primary goal is. Before I had just a piece of short information about it - in the lower footer.
  • Ads related - I've read somewhere about too many ads... So - I had automatic google ads enabled. For now, deleted it and place few ads, very few. Funny thing - my traffic is down my google ads revenue is up - cant tell exact metrics for now as it was just yesterday. But very strange as its Sunday, I had never good ads income on Sundays.
  • Ads again - I've removed my site widget with amazon ads

That's all I have done or will do in the next few days. I still try to post some further news. My page contains of pbns and whitehat, but I had a fantastic March and Feb - around 1000-1500 visitors per day. I started to drop in April to around 500 and was mainly hit with the algo update.
 
and in the middle of pandemic too, I see lots of suicide attempts in the future...

Unless you work at Google, this is just your opinion, nothing more. I think the opposite, it is clear that the bounce rate counts. If you are at the first place Google and all the visitors leave your page directly you are going to sink = THIS IS a ranking factor.
I do not imagine that in 2020 someone can ignore this.

I tell you this, each day I do a lot searching on google, for my hobby, business, and other things, as soon as I get the info I was looking for (the sooner the better) I LEAVE the website, in most cases, there is absolutely NO need for me to stay on a website and browse around. How this could hurt any website? They've done their job, gave me what I was looking for and I'm done. Pure and simple.
If bounce rate did count, people would be splitting articles into parts just to keep people clicking (next) around their site, makes no sense and it's bad user experience.

And get this most links including PBNs don't get any clicks or visits and yet they pass the link juice.

In some way u are both correct.

It depends on the search query, you are both to broad and talking about the whole picture but you need to be more detailed to understand eachother.

The person above, if he was talking about a specific term (Maybe buy kettlebell) and the first page on search query is a shit website (Maybe the add to cart doesn't even work) people will leave imidetly with high bounce rate and bad pages/session.

If number two of this search query have an amazing website and everything works properly they will with time increase and win #1 position.

Now this example was to extreme ofc, but that's how it should be inpretended and that's why ofc it is a ranking factor.

But as you say, if you have a wiki site for some random "How is the weather today?" and the answer is a yes / no (Good weather / bad weather) ofc u have a high bounce and ofc second position also have a high bounce. In this search query it doesn't matter.

So again, it is all about what search query u talk about. Cant be that broad in discussion or u confuse each other bigtime :) glglfhfh

The transmission of link juice and classification are 2 different things. I assure you that the bounce rate is taken very seriously, you can even find the equivalent of vagex for serps (I do not remember the name) in order to influence the rankings.
Obviously it takes a lot of real IP for this to work.

If Google uses the bounce rate as a ranking factor how can Google find this out, if a website does not use Google analytics?
