I have done some youtube freelancing work and did use strategies that involved boosting with fake engagement to rank. I explained my plan, the services I will use, etc. all in detail beforehand and the clients were happy with me doing it.

But don't do this for clients unless you actually know what you're doing as you can have a negative impact on their videos/channels if you don't do things properly. It's like building links to websites for SEO, blackhat or whitehat; it can be good or bad depending on what you do.
