I've been working in ecommerce for the last three years, and I'm currently head of marketing for a DTC brand doing $1,500,000 a month through Shopify.

I'm by no means an expert, but if you have any questions relating to anything ecommerce, e.g. Shopify, PPC, CRO, Email marketing, increasing AOV etc. comment below and I'll do my best to answer.

I work in a Digital Marketing agency with brands that make millions a week, and I know the potential of ecommerce but having a good product seems really difficult.

How can you get good products? The idea of reselling rubbish from Aliexpress doesn't sound good in my mind.

Thanks for your questions!

I'd recommend a few email sequences: 2-3 abandoned cart emails, 3-5 email welcome series, replenishment reminders and a win-back series, if they haven't reordered for a long time. All of these have worked well.

I think building trust is one of the biggest factors that most don't do very well, and it's especially crucial if you're a new brand. A few ways to do this: offer a money-back guarantee, provide a level of customer service that goes above and beyond what's expected, turn existing customers into ambassadors and get them to write reviews, share content, post on your ads etc.

Dropshipping is great for testing ideas, especially if you have a limited budget. Once you finder a winner you should then move away from droppshipping and sell direct.

There's a lot more to e-commerce than reselling crap from Aliexpress. Find something you're passionate about and If you have an idea get a sample made and give it to people to test and gather feedback. If it's something they'd buy then there's an opportunity.

Start slowly. Don't think about making huge amounts of money in the beginning. Set a realistic goal like your first 10 customers then first 100 customers. Give the products to your friends and people you know and ask them to share it. WOM is extremely important. Don't look to throw away money you don't have on ads until you have a solid product that people like.

Paid ads. We don't currently do any SEO but it's something we'd like to spend more time on later in the year.

Overall Google ads, but Facebook has very cheap for advertising since Covid-19.

Why do I need to? I don't own the company or profit from it. I'm an employee in a start-up and just earn a regular salary.

I'm trying to get more involved in this community and I created this thread hoping to help a couple of people based on what I've learnt. Very few people talk about Shopify etc here so it's nice to start a conversation and connect with new people.

Sure I take part in free review copies and offer my sig space for links. I'm not rich and if I can get free services that will help my personal projects I will. FYI there are some very wealthy people on this forum who use free review copies.

I don't blame him really. A lot of folks come here and try to act like millionaires. Though unlike you they claim it's their money and they're really not trying help at all, just trying to get newbies to run to them with their money, so I understand his skepticism.

Scaling Facebook ads?

I don't think there's a right and wrong answer. Different things work for different people.
We have quite a basic structure with two campaigns per each country. 1 prospecting campaign and one retargeting campaign.
I try to keep no more than four active ads per adset. Some people refresh their creative every couple of weeks, but we don't have the resources for that. If an ad is performing well I won't change it for 3-5 months.
For prospecting campaigns, I keep the audience extremely broad. If you're just starting out you may need quite detailed targeting or lookalikes.
As you start getting conversions you can begin to broaden your audience. Facebook's algo is pretty good at showing ads to the right people once it has enough data.

If you can get customers to write a positive review in the comments your ad will perform a lot better.
