So, I just received an infraction for "spam" by answering a question someone asked in an old thread. What the rule actually says, as it was quoted to me in pm :
To be perfectly clear here, I don't mind the warning, it's not like I'm personally offended or anything. However :
Peace.
The following activities on the forum are counted as spam:
- Posting the same content more than once
- Making very short or unhelpful replies
- Posting short "thanks" messages instead of using the thanks button
- Posting "PM me for details" instead of providing information in the post
- Posting short, duplicate "welcome" messages in the Introduction forum
To be perfectly clear here, I don't mind the warning, it's not like I'm personally offended or anything. However :
- If it is BHW policy that indeed older threads should not be posted in, that's fine. Ideally though, if that is the idea, please also lock them. Leaving threads open and then warning people for posting in them is literally entrapment.
- If it is BHW policy to give out spam warnings for posting in old threads, why not add the point in there, because the five point list as it stands right now seems to be pointing in a very different direction, and not really support any kind of possible extension into "oh, and btw, if you post in old threads."
- In any case, the "BHW as wealth of information" mantra will probably need some adjustment, perhaps more in the vein of "BHW, where threads die quickly, and permanently" or something like that.
Peace.
