Help with Making Videos

Can anyone get me headed in the right direction for this? I need to take videos from in-game (which I can do) to create how-to videos. So, I need to put like, text boxes or something into the video as it plays explaining the steps I'm doing in the video. (I don't want to do voice-over... but would that be easier or harder than doing it visually?)

I don't see a way to do this in Windows Movie Maker - what should I look at using (preferably something that will get the job done decently with not a big learning curve).

I would use still frames to accentuate important elements or steps. Basically save the specific frames you need to add information to as JPEGs. Then you can use an image editting program to add whatever you need to make the frame as useful as possible for teaching purposes.

Save the editted frames, and splice them into your video at the appropriate places.

Personally, I often use Powerpoint for these kinds of things.

you can add watermarks and annotations or notes (dont remember exactly how they are called).

i said camtasia judging by your skill level.. i mean you never done this before.

for a better editing of what you want you could use Sony vegas movie studio or adobe premiere.. but its not that easy

Ok I'll look into that too. I have "CamStudio" but I don't see any way to bring in a video you already have, so I'll have to look for the right one I guess. I already had AVS4YOU downloading and it's looking to be pretty good, too. I actually got somewhere with it! So going to keep playing with it for now. Thanks everyone!

What about music? Does anyone know a good place to find music I can use as background music that won't get my client in trouble in the long-run?

i think you need to sign up in order to "check out" the free tracks. Or you will be downloaded them with a voice over watermark in them

Or you could go for some others and pay for them.

Or you could always use some trance music they can never trace trance music as its always being remixed, re-edited, ect, ect

For anyone else that it may help, I found that MAGIX movie editor comes with tracks you can use, as well as a lot of sound effects and such. Found a download at a warez site and going to try it (but it's not the most current so don't know if it's going to have that stuff - but the AVS4you trial one I was using puts its own watermark *or course!* so worth trying anyways)
