Has instagram changed the algorithm again?

Hi there

Since a few days ago I have been noticing that most people engagement has dropped without any reason.
For example, photos that used to have 7k-8k likes to barely reach 4-5k since then.
I have just checked the last app update and it dates from 14 April, just a few days ago too.

Might they have changed the algorithm again? do you know or have noticed something similar?

Do you mean that people are uploading more pics so yours are getting hidden?

But shouldn't people spend more time online using the app as there are more free time? That should negate the first point.

Yeah, this math does not make sense. Realistically speaking engagement should be going up because of the quarantine........

actually It does make sense, in other words there isn't enough space for everyone

Both are sort of true.

IG is now saturated with more posts than ever before but there are also many new and active people.
Engagement isn't going up because people are also overstimulated because of the flood of content. If you don't stand out, you pretty much drown under quality content now.

But that is assuming that the ratio of people posting content has increased more than the ratio of people consuming (liking and commenting) content has. But when you really think about it, the ratio of people producing content probably hasn't increased as much as the people consuming it since its quarantine season after all and you can't really produce alot of outdoor type content which leaves an abundance in the ratio of people consuming content which should translate in to plenty more content engagement. Duno if i'm making sense.

i would probably guess the business men at the social media headquarters probably did some magic so that they can also capitalize on quarantine season. But this is just a guess.....

My reach has also decreased about 40-50% on my recent posts. Still trying to find out what in the algorithm has changed. Let's see what happens the next days.

I also had problems for the last couple of days. But for the last two posts my reach has increased again.

ER has mostly been steady,its just IG algo doing its thing.
It's crappy on different IG accounts at different moments,i gues it was your moment.

The results are fluctuating. I would post something with some not so high hashtags, that might increase a bit the insights scoring

Because of the quarantine, more people have huge time on phone or computer, but they may turn to another app. Also the post' amount are increasing, I agree Stifl said "If you don't stand out, you pretty much drown under quality content now."

Supply and demand. There has been more supply then ever before. All of these viral challenges are not helping either. The only way to get better engagement is to cull ghostfollowers and produce better original content.

People are quarantined for around 1 month now on average and I as well felt a change in ER only in the last few days.
