BHW is a great place for learning and one where I always use as a "doubt" source.

So, instead of "closing" myself under my own methods, I'm curious on how YOU work to take a page from page 2-3-4 to page 1.

This is taking into account that results from page 1 do not have too much authority or backlinks (maybe in the 10s) and you have some authority 20s-30s.

What would you address? CTR boosting, adding content, looking for related keywords to the one ranking on page 2?

Let me know how a pro does it :)

I'm not a pro but I assume backlinking works.
You could also use parasites to rank and pass some authority to your domain/money page.
This is assuming you have quality content with proper on page/on site SEO.

Check your on-page SEO, make it perfect, then go and build some links.

Nothing complicated, pretty straight-forward.

Definitely, since there wouldn't be much competition anyway. Which kind of linking would you recommend if it's a client's site?

What would be your top backlinking method to this kind of project, excluding PBNs or parasites which sometimes are not well looked by a third party.

Not a pro, but what i will do
create more content, focus on supporting article for kw you want to take to page 1

and if you can do some PBN.

My normal methods:
  • Sort out onpage SEO, including EAT and YMYL pages/site authority.
  • Internal links - boost those pages
  • Build supporting pages and link to the stuck money pages
  • Improve site speed
If that still does not help. I build more links to ONE of the money pages and see if that ranks. If that still does not rank, you could be stuck in a Google algorithmic penalty. So check previous google updates and see if any 'could' be targeted at your site. Then fix them.

As soon as you get on page 2. After that, it's all about strong relevance, basically tricking Google to think that your website is the best possible result.

Well... not to give it all away.

But id look at exactly WHAT is ranking on page 1 and then look at your page is that the same as everyone else? i.e if your trying to rank for chicken soup and everything is a recipe but your page is a blog post then good luck..

IF the pages are all the same and so is yours then id start doing the following:

- Look at what content each of the 1-10 has. Go back and compare to yours - rewrite and extend if needed.
- Is everyone using the same image? Where do you sit in terms of image rank
- What questions or what do people also search for when looking for that page 1 KW or Phrase.. Can you incorporate that into your page design / content?

Links and all that pay a part but on page focus and answering the search query is more relevant than ever I think.

That's interesting, perhaps expand the article and then create some long tail focused articles?

Never thought about taking algorithmic penalties as a first step (if you took an already quality on page SEO site for example). By the way, would you mind explaining what EAT and YMYL stand for? It hasn't been long since I started SEO in English and sometimes miss terms.

What would you do if you are on page two for a certain keyword but only rank through one page, and that page is not the kind that Google is favoring. Would you edit, create article B and link from article A (the one you have atm) or would you redirect article A to a new article that follows the crowd?

Look at search intent. Google LSI keywords.
Then build links. Niche edits works great.

I will do only two things
  • Start with on-page SEO
  • Build Backlinks
In on pages section
  • Find my top pages
  • Internal link with proper anchor text
  • Optimized Title
  • Optimized meta
It does not work then I research more about my competitors and find their week points and improve on my site. Also sometimes I update my content.

And my last step is to build backlinks from an authoritative site.
Then after a few days, I saw my exact result.

EAT & YMYL

Lots of articles on this, but basically it is all about authority. Google wants you to prove to them that you are qualified to recommend a product or service, so they can trust you.

Depending on your niche, this can be easy to fix. Other niches like health, it is a pain in the arse.

Fasttrak is right. I am agree with him.

Start with internal linking first.

Very very insightful. Thx

IF google is ranking another page over one you have optimised for a KW then:

1. You need to see why its doing that and what have you done on the "wrong page"

or

2. Depending on how old your site is you need to give it some time.

I'm not sure if that is what your asking...

Id not touch or edit the "wrong page" that much though...

Hey there, could you tell us a little more about EAT and YMYL, never heard of them before. What do you do to acomplish them?
