if you want easy way to make movies then invideo, or headliner are good options. But they provide templates, and I doubt there is a template like that. If you want a video like that you have to use imovie or a movie editor which will cost alot

It's not that hard to do, you could do this in Adobe After Effects. I found tutorial for you

I tried in after effects but having 500 odd shape + text layers + images open on a composition is incredibly laggy, and not to mention incredibly finicky, especially since I have to link every image to a shape using alpha matte to crop the sides off. There has to be a better way.

what do you mean? photoshop isn't a video editing software. you need to be more specific. do you mean to create a large image and then scroll across it in premiere/after effects using keyframes? then I wouldn't be able to use effects like he did at the start would I? but I guess I could try. maybe it would be easier than doing it on after effects.

I can do EVERYTHING in After Effects. Small to huge project. I'm used to have composition that involve over 300 layers and dozens of pre-composition.

Nothing is complicated in creating this video, To create this video 80% of work is done in photoshop and 20% is done in after effect, all you need to create these slide images in photoshop, and then take it to adobe after effect, you just need to animate position effect by scrolling towards right with timings you want.

You can create it in photoshop+after effect eaisly, create icons in photoshop and you have all kind of tools available in after effect to animate it eaisly exactly same as its animated in video you have given above
