I'm starting to begin to understand instagram more and more so this made me decide to make a journey. I plan on using this as a journal and also a place to get help.

(account niche: anime)
What I've Done:
Grown to 4.2k Followers
Went through some sets of hashtags
Growing at around 150+ followers per day

To Do:
Stop stealing content - I need to start making my own
Find better hashtags - The hashtags I used to use were good at the time, not anymore
Increase Engagement - I've met some great people to help me, but I need to get to at least a 20% engagement rate

What's in this Journey:
I'll be logging my experience on increasing my engagement and not talking about growth, I feel like there are infinite resources on how to grow, but not enough on how to keep your engagement rate up

3/22/20:
Today I've been looking for small hashtags with not many big pages posting to them, sadly big pages are dominating all of the hashtags, I may need to try and get somewhere with hashtags. I'll try and post without them and see how that goes.

Following this journey! I used to grow IG pages in 2018-2019 but I stopped after it got so hard and wasn't worth the effort as a side gig anymore. How long did it take you to go from 0 to 4.2k followers and what method are you using bro? Would love to know!

PS: Good luck!

I had a journey thread where the goal was to reach 20k followers. It took me a long time, but I made it there. Now I'm almost at 23k followers. It's slow, but I'm working on making something nice out of this project that I actually care about.

To increase your engagement rate, a thing that I found useful is to create chat groups. I have a lot of followers so I'm able to create multiple chat groups. What I do is that I post a survey in my stories every once in a while and ask if people whant to join a chat group. Let it for 24 hours and add everyone who answered yes in a chat group. Let them talk with each other, talk to them as well. Have conversations and every time you make a new post, share it there.

Followers don't always see your posts right away, but they usually have their notifications on when it comes to DMs. So they ill see your posts right away and will like them and some will come to your posts to comment on them. The more followers, the more group chats and the more likes and comments. It's instant engagement, pretty much.

From my experience, the best way to rank on hashtags is to get a lot of engagement fast. Once you find the best hahstags for your posts (don't use the same hashtags on every post, you will eventually not be seen at all on these hashtags). Reply to every comment as soon as you see them, especially in the first couple of hours and you'll increase your engagement rate, especially if you have small conversations in the comment section. So don't hesitate to ask small questions to the ones who comment on your posts, they will most likely come back and answer your questions, which means more comments from one user.

You got some interesting journey here. I'm following you on this. How do you plan on creating your own contents though? Looking forward to your updates.

20k good, real followers are way better than 200k generic followers. Well, unless your goal is to sell shoutouts to inexperienced marketers. :p:poop:

3.22.20: Grew 191 Followers, engagement dropped from 10% to 7%, hopefully likes will be better tomorrow. Here's the hashtag set, incase anyone was wondering. Likes were low.
(#instagramanime #animeworlds #animelist #dailyanime #animephotos #animeweeb #animefight #anime #animegirls #animegirl)
3.23.20: I've grown 122 Followers so far today. Just posted with my second hashtag set, hopefully, it'll be better.
Total Followers: 4425
My method of research: I've been pressing "related hashtags" on big anime hashtags and gathering which ones with a sub 250k post counts can I use. While researching I found this website where there were some hashtags for my niche. I grabbed a few that were highly targetted and started using. On 3.22.20, I started talking to more people. I'm going to post 1-3 stories a day now, and make various group chats to talk to people

I'm just posting and doing shoutout for shoutout a lot. I have my friend managing most of the growth, which is why the target of this journey will not be growth, but engagement, I just feel like high engagement will make my growth skyrocket, bringing 10k in two months a very possible goal.

Thanks, I've started to do this now. This has been really helpful as I'm building personal relationships with some of my followers

Thanks, I plan on making my own content by watching all the seasonal anime, which I planned on doing already, and compiling some notable scenes using a quick collage.
Following! Good luck!
Thanks
Impressing.
Thank you for sharing
Thanks
Yes, making your own, now instagram is worth to do white hat jobs!
tbh

I'm not going to do that, I'm planning on building a blog and selling shirts. I might start a new Journey thread to see how it goes

I had a lot of succes in the anime niche in the past. For growing accounts, at least. Selling anything is harder than it is for other niches, I think, unless you target people who are so into anime that they would buy manga and pay for VOD services and not read scans and watch on streaming websites, which is pretty rare since most anime fans are teenagers with no money.
Anyway, one thing that I would do for this niche was the mother/children accounts method with Twitter. Posting a few times a day and posting links to my instagram posts every few posts used to work great. People who followed me on Twitter and went to my Instagram page used to engage a lot because they did all this because they were really interested inmy content. It might be a good strategy to increase your engagement.

Thanks a lot, I'll try and build a twitter and possibly a reddit around this account. I plan on starting a GPT site and doing affiliate marketing off of this account. Affiliate marketing with Amazon, just do they can click and I get a commission, even if they don't buy anything at the time or from my niche. I'm not looking to deal with copyright, so this seemed like the best solution

Great idea! If you can afford it, there is a site called Lootcrate I think. It's a membership kind of site tat sends you a pack with random anime goodies every month. You could subscribe and do unboxing videos. They used to have an affiliate program that pays $5 per subscription, I think. It's been a while, but it worked pretty well for me back then.

I'll check it out later.

3.23.20: Growth can't be accurately measured, igblade wasn't working, but my engagement was shit, 226 likes 3 comments.
3.24.20: I've been downloading posts off of vurku, but now, I'll be screenshotting my posts and see how that affects engagement. If this positivley affects engagement, I'll retry all the hashtag sets I setup before with this method.

Followers: 4530, hopefully, I'll be at 5k before the end of the week.
Today I posted 3 stories, but I'll try and do 10 before the day ends. I get around 500 story views. I don't get very many hashtags impressions, only one so far, all of my likes are from home. The updates will no longer be daily but will become weekly or whenever something large happens

3.29.20 I just hit 5k followers, I'm starting to get noticed by bigger pages in my niche and am talking to them a lot more. So here's a quick recap before I put this into paragraph form:
  • Hit 5k Followers
  • Started making my own content instead of reposting
  • Took a break off hashtags and started getting better engagement for some reason
  • Joined an engagement group
I'm finally at 5k followers. Halfway there to my goal. 7% engagement is pretty shitty, but I'll try and get it up every way I can. My strategy for getting content to post is watching a ton of anime and picking notable scenes and saving it. I watch around 12 - 50 episodes every day, so I can save many scenes and pick a random one when it's time to post. I'll only be picking popular(ish) anime or anime I think are funny enough to go there. My posts get 300-500 likes and 7-20 comments. I joined an engagement group, not to use it, but to meet more people. Anyways that's it, no secret sauce yet, I've been engaging with my followers a lot more and I've made(or co own) a discord server with 100 members. The goal is 500 before the end of may and I'll probably put some money towards that.

I remembered to reply! Now the journey will be focusing on growth and engagement. I found the issue. My followers wanted anime memes and I didn't post those too often. Now that I'm starting to post them, I get 500+ likes on my stuff without even using hashtags. I'll start using hashtags. The way I grow is mass story voting. I heard it's risky, but I've used it on bigger accounts with no issues. I guess it's time to start focusing on growing. I'll start to write about growth and engagement now.

I'm at 5.6k almost 5.7k followers right now.
Growth:
I'm using mass story voting, I'm using very generic messages like "follow me" and "you should follow me". I'll be switching them around to stuff like "I post anime memes on my page if you like those." I expect those to produce much better results. In addition to that, I'll be switching the sources around from being crunchyroll and other large pages to smaller niche pages that have much more targetted content. Let's see how that goes

Engagement:
Been going well, 7% with low quality posts, I aim for it to be 10%+ until I reach around 10k then I'll expect a bit less, but I'll also expect to be hitting explore consistently. I don't hit explore at all at the moment. I really wanted to do anime scenes on this account, but if that's not what my followers want, it'd be stupid to be wasting the 5k, almost 6k I already have. I have a month and some change to get around 4k and I don't have time to waste, I may buy some shoutouts soon to try and speed up my growth but apart from that, I'll be doing mass story bots.

4.8.20: Today I hit 6k, er 8%, going up steadily. I'm getting very little hashtag impressions, but I'll try and get that fixed soon. Content is becoming easier to handle and I'm spending 5 mins max on this account. Yesterday I found 50 sources and since I tried using them, my account grew 200 followers today. Growth has been great, I was thinking about what the next step was and I decided that making a sad quotes page would be the best move for me. I'm going to look for someone on BHW that's good with hashtags so i can purchase their services.

Following! I wish you good luck!
thanks

Hey dude!
Good luck with your journey. I am currently struggeling a bit on mine, since I did so many mistakes on my first account :D
I will try shoutout4shoutout soon and I hope it will increase my daily growth (currently only gaining 20-40 new followers each day) + my impressions from hashtags are also pretty low. If you find a good way to improve your hashtags, let me know!
