Anyone doing at home workouts?

Got any alternatives for a bench press? Besides weighted pushups ofc.

Dumbell Press? :D :D

I've been on a little break from my weights but I'm gonna have to start again soon. Luckily I got all the shit I need at home aside from a bench, but a bed works fine :P

My kickboxing club are doing online classes so I am following along with those - this week just past we've been doing 1 martial arts class per day and next week we're adding a morning fitness class to that as well. So yes, I am working out at home, trying to keep fit even whilst all of this crap is going on (We're self-isolating so not leaving the house at all right now).

Jeah i have just started working out. Im using an app and its preety good.

I been weightlifting at home. Bench press is basically working out your triceps; so instead, you can use the dumbells and pull upward in an upright position with a forward lunge.

I use a curl bar to do deadlifts, squats, and overhead lifts.

If you can obtain olympic rings, they can be added to the pull up bar to do dips.

I've been jumping rope for the past 3 or 4 weeks my pulse rate is a lot lower than it was when I first started. I'm 49 so if I can do it I know others can especially the younger ones.
Jump rope is a treat for your cardiovascular system. The lowering pulse is a sign that your heart is getting healthier by the day. I used to do it back in the day but stopped cause it winded me out. It’s embarrassing because I’m only 22. Lol

It's about bodyweight, the lighter you are, the more you can do. When i had 14 i could make 80 90 when i was skinny, no i can make only 40 45 even tho i have way more mucles than before.
That might actually be the reason. But I’ve seen guys heavier than me do 100 reps a stretch. They’re all genetic freaks though.

I mean you wont really lose muscle in only 2-3 weeks, just glycogen/water which comes back right away so dont worry too much lol.

Just look up more advanced calisthenics, handstands, handstand pushups, planche, pistol squat, shrimp squat, things like that. Same on the pullup up bar, levering, muscle ups, etc

Do some plyos or explosive push ups too. Honestly I get a bit leaner without lifting for short periods bc I am not eating as much and am not bloated lol from stuffing down food. Its also good to take a break 2-3 weeks of just calisthenics youll come back refreshed and stronger, I think calisthenics make people look better too.
There was a time when I was doing just calisthenics because I was convinced that was the way to go. I also got one of my buddies to join me in a park at 5:00 AM every day. He got pissed and stopped coming a while later lol.

I think a good deal of calisthenics + weight training + aerobics would be great.
Wanted to go to the gym since 15 lol but dunno why yoga is what I want to start doing
Yoga wouldn’t work for me. I’m about as flexible as a 2x4.
I am missing my gym too. Sucks so bad and i hope they will open up very soon again.
What i did back in 2015, i build my own homegym when i was cancelling my gym in 2015. One was to save gasmoney and fitness membership and 2 because i was lazy. So i would say, you go on a shopping spree on Amazon and buy some great stuff. Especially look out for something that is called a MultiGym or MultiStation. With those you can work out more than just 1 muscle and have a large variety of things you can perform on one. I think i bought mine back in the day for like 150$ or 200$ and it has a crapton of things you can use it for.

I would also buy a cable station which a load of adapters. That way you can also once again, train a vast majority of your body with just 1 station. If you then have a couple of dumbbells and bars (i like the curled bars especially) then you should be all set. But even with just a couple of dumbbells and bars you can do lots of things. The most important part, is to keep enough waits that you can throw around, because i start to experience a lack of weights that i can use in my homegym lol. Gotta stock up on those.

And if you don't have the money, then your best bet is to just work with your own bodyweight. Depending on how much you weight, you can then set the reps accordingly. There is a membership website called freeletics which focuses only on bodyweight exercises and can keep you pretty fit, while you are not in the gym.
I’ve got the dumbbells. Working right up from 1 kg to 60 kgs. Can’t do much with them without a bench though. Freeletics sounds like what I’m looking for. I’ll have a look at that site.

I’ve got no bench lol. The bed’s fine for flies but how do you do presses on a bed? You’d be limiting your ROM and working only the top part of a press.

Tried the whole boxing scene. They made me do knuckle push ups and chicken walks. Lost more weight in a week than I’d anticipated and decided to stop lol. That’s too much cardio for me.

Isn’t the bench press primarily targeting the chest? Can’t do deadlifts either lol, the folks living below might not be happy with that.

ha prob not
Dont worry about your chest too much just do some pushup and calisthenic variations youll be fine, doing bench from the floor is a floor press, good accessory try it out. Also Z press, sit on the floor legs out straight and press overhead.

For deadlift and leg strength try out Nordic curls, pistol and shrimp squats. Hold DBs for pistols of you can do them easily.
Broad jumps (jumping for distance) are good for hamstrings and explosive, id add them sometimes for deadlift training.
Obviously might wanna go outside to jump and leap around lol as people living below might not like that either.
On that note, go outside and push/pull your car, we used to do that sometimes too.

Just going to bring @t2van 's attention to this thread, I am sure he'll have something to say about home workouts

Cheers... ha!

If your stuck at home and don't have a "home gym" or limited access to weights you need to do one of two things:

1. Spend money get a kettlebell 12kg - 16kg if you have already solid muscle mass 4kg - 8kg if you are "new" and get some resistance bands. I can share some good starting videos that I've found online which focus on trying to get form sorted or I can just give you a set to do and you can die at home ;)

2. If ordering the above is limited (no money and no delivery) and you can't do anything body weight workouts / calisthenics is going to be your only option.

I can give out routines if you're worried about loosing muscle BUT your going to drop a bit anyway due to very different nature of the workout vs crunching weight.

If you have basic martial arts training i.e how to do some kicks and punches (form does not have to be solid) I can give you a few free moment routines to work in that will work your entire body.

As for bench press alternative the easy and obvious replacement with no equipment will be a dip you can do that from a chair and depending on fit you are feeling you can alter the incline by stretching out further a little pause between the dips (down) will add an extra element to it. It's not going to get you big but then most people do a bench press for the "look" if you ask me the dip will get you wider!!

If you have a barbell and some weights use a corner of a room you don't mind scuffing up, load up the one end of the barbell and treat it like a landmine press / barbell rainbow..

ah Ok off the top of my head..

Dumbbell Floor Press
Overhead Tricep Extension
Chest Flyes - on the floor start 2inches up off the ground or there about
Shoulder Dumbell press standing - legs shoulder width apart
Lateral Raises
Rows off a single dining chair - I used to love these before I had a bench it's simple and takes zero extra equipment!
Front raises
Shrugs
Curls
Squat / Single Step Squat / Walking Squat (any squat)

none of the above require a bench!

One we get the guys to do in the gym was squat on the floor or as low as you can go and hold that position. Hold 10kg dumb bells over your head and walk (while in squat) from one side of the room to the other. On the way back you hold your arms out to the side.

It was more of a punishment when people kept dropping arms or complained about being tired!

i have almost all the basic workout equipment at home and its fun. i don't really like sharing tools that much, especially when my adrenaline kicks in and in the mood to workout most gyms around me are congested. i try managing my time and being productive at the same time it can be boring at first but once you get use to it might be very fun to work out at home.

Nordic curls sounds badass af lol
Thanks for the routine, I’ll definitely try it out.

Wow..just wow! This is exactly what I’m looking for. Thanks for adding in and this should help me hold out until they reopen the gym.

This sucks for everyone! I’m doing weighted jump rope workouts and push ups and crunches

I'll start doing exercises. It's now or never.
Any good videos about weight loss? and obviously home workouts.

Been doing most of the same workouts I would do at the gym. Luckily I started investing in a bunch of home workout equipment before this coronavirus crap started, free weights, bench, pull up bar, etc. I was just sniping up all the equipment from people that failed their new year's resolutions.
