Seeing the potential it has, it doesn't seem to be a very popular way to make money here on BHW, which is surprising, to say the least.

I'm not familiar with this method/concept. Am I the only one? If not, you have your answer I guess.

Not ready to share :D:D:D:D:D:D

Op finally got his “big” username. All is right in the world.

I think it's because the most profitable methods result in the least amount of conversation. That or everyone doing media buying is actually not making money and faking-it-until-make-it.

Because nobody wants to address the elephant in the room. ;)

Those are into media buying aren't active on bhw replying everyone's issues

How much do you need to get started with this? Also can someone recommend where I can run banner ads with my own server?

I am up for learning from scratch, hope I can find a mentor. I would be willing to code for them if they are hidden.
Hey, I am over here. Invite me :)

Mentorship is not allowed on BHW...but, what you code?

It's not. No conversion is necessary, you make money by selling and displaying, it doesn't have to be CPA.
Media buying is selling your ad placement, there are no methods or magic tricks to suddenly make millions. It requires understanding and expertise. Probably that is the problem - everyone is looking for methods instead of learning and getting experience.

I have a number of threads where I cover media buying topics.

Cause it is big boys game and nobody with common sense would reveal anything here.

There is nothing to reveal, it's not black magic.

You mean I can't just use my picture of Paul (see above) and print money selling diet pills? (serious).

Good point, the only contacts I've had with other media buyers was via PM.
The thing is its not "methods" for a quick buck, its real business so I don't think it interests anyone here.

This ^

I want to do stuff like this:

I understand this is an irony, but to answer your question:
Getting an ad server is not hard, and DFP(GAM) is free.
Serving an ad that is fake news, or something like on your example could be pretty hard.
Diet pills could be even harder unless those are over the counter drugs that don't require a prescription.

What do you want to know about media buying OP?

I know Media Buying is more of a Trial and Error game, one has to get down and dirty to find a profitable campaign, but there has to be a place where you can learn from other people's experiences? I mean from real case studies.

Judging by some of the comments I think it would be a good idea to post couple links here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_buying
https://smartyads.com/blog/the-three-stages-of-media-buying-process/
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/m/media-buy.asp

In short, acquiring traffic could be called media buying, as you set an ad that attracts visitors to your site.
When you hear that someone buys traffic, you think about the end result - traffic landed to the site, however in reality, the process involves research on what to promote, the ad copy and creative, targetting, and the launch. If someone sells you traffic that is delivered to your site directly without trackable ads, it's bot traffic or traffic that was tricked.
