So far I've ranked a couple of videos on YT but the traffic I've received has been different every time.

Sometimes I've had thousands of clicks per day on a keyword that has 100,000 searches on Google, but sometimes I've had zero or close to zero clicks per day on a keyword that had 200,000 searches on Google.

Which means that it's not always Google Searches = YT Searches.

Any suggestions on how to research properly?

Yes, it's different. I have tried Keyword Planner, Keywordtool, Ahtefs. But IMO it's still useful as reference.

Also don't forget that you cannot expect to get click as many as search volume. Check your CTR. And from the search page CTR, you'll get the true volume, roughly.

It's all about getting into YouTube Suggestions. We don't get much from google/youtube search even after ranking for so many keywords.
If you want to get more attention, provide quality content.

Here are my channel stats, it's not great but it'll grow as it's seasonal niche.

We uploaded around 500+ original videos to achieve this.
we have a few videos which hit 4M + views.

Basic SEO, Custom Thumbnails, Looks at competitors and see what's working for them and simply follow their formula.
