I had this music channel on Youtube that has 1,300 subs. Last November, I deleted most of the videos. I kept three videos which I own, and began shifting the channel's content. I posted around 6 or 7 gaming videos... and let it rest.

I lost 200 subs since then. Videos are not getting that much views (~20 each), since Youtube hates that move. Looking at my stats, I'm still generating organic traffic and not only from the previous subs.

I got back to uploading. I spent some time on my content. Been uploading for the past four days in a row; long videos, voice commentary and editing. (God, do I hate uploading 2gb files!!)

Anyway, my question is:

Will I be able to turn this channel, although the strategy implemented is awfully bad to the algorithm?
Do you guys have any experience with doing something similar?

Youtube doesnt hate that move. Yiur channels tags are music tags which means you cant rank gaming videos. All you could do is to make music with gaking background and use music tags mistly

Holy mother of god, thank you! I forgot to actually change my channel's main keywords/tags in the Settings. Thank you, thank you, thank you..

Do you think that would take care of it?

I dont know, propably not. If you have ranked music videos before youtube has already decided your channels keywords which cannot be changed. Use tubebuddy and vidiq to see which keywords your channel ranks for

Even if I post regular gaming content? Bear in mind, I got some organic traffic from both Google and Youtube search on a couple of gaming videos (not a lot, but gives hope).
Downloading TubeBuddy and will check this out.

Need more opinion on this.

You can rank for gaming it is possible but ita to the same as music for yoir channel. I think you should post music with gaming clips and use kusic tags and slowly turn it into gaming thats the best u can do. Follow my advice and u wonr be sorry

Thing is, I used to post music that I don't own... mainly content that is not copyrighted, but still not my music.
Youtube stopped monetizing those kinds of channels. Well, most of them.
I'd like to work on something that I can monetize later on.

Jesus christ. Im telling you to use thr music and mix it with gaming and then fully transition to gaming videos which happen to be MONETIZABLE !!:p:D

How come? Even if you don't own the copyrights of the music?
I'm confused.

Not now! Later on when u make the channel completely gaming. You can stop using compyrighted songs!!!
Definitely not a good strategy to what I'm trying to accomplish here.
Thanks, though.
