Thoughts on Nofollow links will counted By Google?

Maybe it's time to bury the old myth about No-follow links and having more case studies done.

NoFollow links matter for more than just crawling!
One of the sneakiest and most insidious elements of this update is that thousands of webmasters will rush to remove NoFollow attributes from their links.

My advice is that you should not do this.

You still need to be using NoFollow links -- probably more than you do currently.

As usual, we are getting conflicting advice from Google and when this happens I call shenanigans...

In Google's own Lighthouse Report your SEO grade will be marked down for "non-descriptive links"

Why it matters

Non-descriptive links such as the ones in the example list above are going to dilute the relevance associations between pages.

After making one of my 'more' links NoFollow I was able to remove the warning in Google's Lighthouse Audit.

This is because a NoFollow link gets treated as plain text.

So I decided to NoFollow generic links across an entire stagnant site as a test...

The site started to see growth with each subsequent crawl, and during the January update it really took off.

(The site had hit a relevance bottleneck and this allowed things to improve.)

Yes, Google may be using these links as hints in future...

This doesn't mean we should ignore their importance for other things such as anchor text and how this matters to relevance.

Even their own tools tell us the importance of these links.

No follow links DO count. You can get penalized from spammy nofollow links.

A good no follow link doesn't have the same power as a good do follow link but it still passes juice. I've ranked for low comp keywords only with nofollow links.

As mentioned above, I would agree that no-follow links have always held some value.

They have always been great for link diversification and I've even seen ranking improvements if they're from authority sites.
With this update, I'm hoping they would bring more value to the table and equally excited to see how the other new tags which are being introduced would change the game.

I think one of the updates happens in google, i.e Previously nofollow links were treated as a directive, meaning Google obeyed the nofollow, period. Starting today, for ranking purposes, Google is treating nofollow as a hint. This means that Google will decide whether to use the link for ranking purposes or not.

No follow has its value in SEO. It should be balanced with proper ratio. Every relevant links as value.

this nofollow hint is probably a honeypot for spammers, google gave up from trying to fight them by using algorithims and started to use the honeypots way.
