Accumulating views before setting "public" to trick the algo

I've read a number of comments about a way to trick the Youtube algorithm into thinking your video is accumulating views very rapidly by setting the video first to "private" and sending HR views, then putting it public once it has a couple of 100 views. The comments suggest that Youtube mistakes the hundreds of views as "early success" and ranks you higher.

Does this actually work? Does anybody here have solid first hand experience with this?

Probably you mean unlisted method. It worked very well 3-4 years ago. This method is still working but you need to consider other factors. Aged channels, engagement rates, like-dislike ratio etc. And also after bunch of youtube updates on views, it is very difficult to provide HR views. You can still figure out this with low retention views ,but if you do not have any experience about youtube algorithm before, this will make things difficult.

The unlisted doesn't work anymore. Used make a lot of money with it in the past.

@SmmBoom Yes, unlisted method, that's what I meant. Thanks! Ok, so this seems to be a thing of the past. What a pitty :)

Unlisted method still works in some cases. But generally its
just temporrary thhing that lasts for 24h. That said it can only
help you to gain initial boost of your video in first 24h since it
has been made public. It can work if you have low competition.
Its not a guaranteed method so you have to try it multiple times
and it might work for certain videos with low competition. So try
it occasionally but dont expect too much - sometimes it work and
can help your video become viral. So just try it theres nothing
to loose, and its not against yt rules, so no fear of ban or warnings,
and sometimes it will work in certain circumstances.

and what about retention?

So maybe I will give it a try. But how do you get good retention views to an unlisted video? I guess the algo still punishes you if it sees many initial views but they are all low retention...

Its just a number game. And its fake number game.
So you dont need high retention views, you just need
to send as much traffic as you can in 24h before you
make your video public. So in next day those views
will be counted together with your published views and
it will create higher VPH number, which will give you
oportunity to go to trending if its enough in your niche.
But that initial VPH number is fake due to fact that it
is calculated based on accumulated views from previous
day when video was unlisted. So it will be corrected as
time passes.

But that high VPH sometimes is enough to give you
advantage over your competitors. And thats the whole
story. Just try it multiple times and it might work once
in a while. No harm if its not.

That's some good, thanks.

Does it work only if I keep the video unlisted for 24 hrs? Or i can keep it unlisted for 7 days, send views and likes and then make it public after 7 days?
Does '24 hours' have any relevance?

Its very difficult to get good views in 24 hours because most smm panels are unreliable and they can only send 1-2k views in 24 hours.

So order from multiple SMM panels then

Yeah and that 24hour thing - is it important? What if I made it listed after 7 days not 24H?

So order from multiple SMM panels then

I will tell you why thats not possible either.
You order from three panels A, B and C. Your start count is 0

Suppose A will deliver first and you get 2k views.
B and C will report that they have delivered those 2k views. End of story.

Now if you want to order from B only after A finishes, then you have to wait for A to finish.
And more often that not they will consume all the 24 hours. And even if they dont, you have to then wait for A to finish then B to start and finish then C to start...
