Yes exactly.
Anyway, I was feeling that it will come to an end for the guest post farms. It's too obvious and they are more like PBNs.
"Google has detected... links that are either unnatural or irrelevant.
So, again, relevancy is the key.

Always good to take a look in Ahrefs at the outbound links of a guest post site.

Even if it's not hit by Google, a site with high OBL will provide less link juice. So, definitely Ahrefs check is a must.

I'm not sure if it occurred in this case but many people will get a guest post then spam that guest post with backlinks to boost it thinking it can take the links and is a buffer to their money site.
I'm sure a post like this that gets spammed with backlinks looks unnatural.
This came from a manual review. The Google algorithm is not going to automatically ignore guest post links but "suspicious" posts may start getting flagged for manual reviews.
Finally, the site that purchased the guest post was not directly punished other than having the link devalued. And the pay-to-post site was not deindexed. The link juice was just turned off.
He may still be able to sell guest posts to people who don't really know how they work and don't do their due diligence before paying for a guest post.
The most interesting thing I found in the article was how accurately Google was able to pick out the specific links that were paid out of all the links while ignoring the unpaid links.

Some times paid guest posts are pretty obvious, just one like to a product page. While I'm sure the natural posts have internal linking and linking to references.
When I write guest post i will ask if I can link to other content on their site or site references, many times I can get them to allow these links in my guest post. I sell it as looking natural.

Yes absolutely, now guest post has high risk when more OBL link to irrelevant site and that makes link profile abnormal. Probably, no link power will be passed to linking site. But the matter is how we do it. Outbound links with relevancy is important and even if you want to link to other site(not much), it should be done logically. Link only when it is reasonable and necessary and Diversify link profile to be safe.

That's why one of my conditions when accepting a guest post (apart from $150-$200 compensation) is that the buyer isn't allowed to build any links to the post. If they do so, I reserve the right to delete the post, without offering any compensation.
I'd suggest this policy to all owners of legitimate authority sites who get requests for guest posts.

Totally agree... forbes is probably the biggest link farm.
It has been happening for ages where google de-indexes link farms; nothing new here.
to OP: searchenginejournal? seriously? they post a lot of junk with barely any proof and the writing is really bad. 1 website got penalised and they make a huge story out of it... so searchenginejournal.

Yes but if it's a guest post farm it will be still suspicious.
Some webmasters have stated the price for guest posts. Some are using gmail.
Some buyers are pumping spammy links to the guest posts and all these are footprints.
Carefully check on Ahrefs before buying/acquiring guest posts. If it's guest post farm then better stay away.
The OBL from whole website, not just from the actual guest post. The OBL from whole website tells that the site is actually a guest post farm.
OBL within the guest post will only make it more natural. Relevant OBL of course.
It has google penalty proof. That's why I decided to share it.
