How many tweets/day can I post without getting locked?

The current technical limits for accounts are:
  • Direct Messages (daily): The limit is 1,000 messages sent per day.
  • Tweets: 2,400 per day. The daily update limit is further broken down into smaller limits for semi-hourly intervals. Retweets are counted as Tweets.
  • Changes to account email: 4 per hour.
  • Following (daily): The technical follow limit is 400 per day. Please note that this is a technical account limit only, and there are additional rules prohibiting aggressive following behavior.
  • Following (account-based): Once an account is following 5,000 other accounts, additional follow attempts are limited by account-specific ratios.

Just to add to anyone reading this. DO NOT try and send 1000 DMs per day, nor 2400 tweets per day for your bulk created account trying push some kind of offer, your account will NOT last. There is a whole world of difference between STATED LIMITS (the above) and what you can actually do and keep your account.

In this explanation you should note that, "The daily update limit is further broken down into smaller limits for semi-hourly intervals. You can not make the daily limit with in a hour".

These limits are just an average. It will vary based on your account performance.Do not go for acheiving the maximum day limit in just one hour.

Don't use any abusing, vulgar comment, don't use twitter for only promotional offers, don't fire many hastags, don't comment sensitive or political point if you have new account.

to add to the above, just because you tested what you could do in a 24 hour period, doesn't mean you can now do that every 24 hour period without issue.

It's a moderate frequency to send about five times a day. These five should be distributed in different time periods of the day and come out from time to time to remind others of you from time to time.

You can post more than 5 tweets per 24 hours without getting locked.

I've heard it's possible to post 1 tweet with multiple hashtags every hour without getting locked, that means 24 tweets/day. Could anyone confirm this?

...yeah. Users that post those max limits must be thinking others that ask about Twitter limits must be braindead for not being able to use a search engine.

Government agents and celebrities could perhaps tweet 2400 times within 24 hours.
