I use profile links and they still seem to work. I think as long as they have decent content they do work.
DA and PA are still handy markers to highlight the better domains.

No, they are not, they are just popular by people who don't know how to do a decent background check and sellers that use them to sell their (oftentimes useless) links.

there is a difference between a profile or some web 2.0 with a high DA and a editorial link with a high DA. Ofcourse the later is more powerful for your serps
