KDP Journey as a Non-Writer

Amazon is your free tool. You can use this extension to get more ideas about what people search for, but it doesn't really give you any other data than suggestions based on people's searches.

You don't have to repeat words like "nurse, student nurse, nurse gift", you can just write "nurse student gift". It will save you a lot of space that you can use for more keywords.

Today I'm creating some sudoku books for kids. Here's one of the covers I've created, it took about 10 minutes to create. The interior didn't take long also since I've used the puzzle creator.

As stated in the OP, I'm pricing low and will increase prices slowly once I start getting reviews:

How possible to create a book 10 minutes ?

I've been following your journey, you have been doing an amazing work. Can't deny how informative this journey has been for me and maybe it is finally the time I start KDP.

Still I have some questions though,

I have absolutely no experience whatsoever in designing, so what bothers me the most is how I would be making covers, you have mentioned before that you outsource the pictures you use for covers, do you buy them ? If yes where ?

I might be also doing some coloring books, but I need some guidance here, you said you hire illustrators, can you suggest a few or at least where I can find them myself.

Finally, you managed to create two KDP accounts, and as far as I have learned, one can only make a single account.

Thank you.

I outsource coloring books to illustrators since I'm really good at digital drawing, but I make the covers myself. For simple covers I use bookbolt designer, and for more advanced work I use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
There are websites that sell cliparts with commercial use licenses, which you can use on your covers. I'm not listing any websites here since you have to be careful and read through the license to make sure you're allowed to use them, do your own research.

Since you don't have any experience in designing, I suggest you give bookbolt a try and start watching videos about designing on YouTube. Here's a video of bookbolt:
If you're following the journey from the start, you might have seen that I shared some coupon codes I had for the software I use. I'm not sure they're still valid, but you can try and see.

For illustrators, you can search on upwork and other freelancing sites. I found mine through onlinejobs.ph.

You can only have one account per entity, so you can basically register 5 LLCs and have an account under each one of them.

For coloring books, is it ok if I buy color vector pics from paid sites, and then remove the color with the outlines remaining?
How many pages do you normally create for coloring books?
Also do you include colored pics in the book for buyers to reference with?

OP I'm in love with your journey as you've provided real results and have taken us through your struggles and growth along the way.

I'm just getting myself into low content books and I'm learning so much along the way and it sounds like getting into the different types of niches is key.

I just started getting my low content books up the other day so far everything is still stuck in review but I've posted a few different types of low content books such as 2 notebooks, a journal or diary, 2 recipe books one of them will be a Mother's Day gift, a graduation guest book to get ready for the spring, and I'm working on two gamebooks from PuzzleWiz thanks to the OP for sharing that one. I'm definitely gonna get my head into every niche possible.

I've also done a ton of research and gotten some real help from StackinProfit's YouTube channel, you guys should really check that out if you already haven't he's got some great information in there.

He preaches uploading a lot of content to play the numbers game but also focusing on what genres work for you.

I'm not sure how I'll do yet but I want to make a full-time living out of this so I'm aiming for $1,500 per month minimum from this and I think it's doable but it will be challenging.

StackinProfit seems to have taken advantage of holiday seasons that seems to be the key in generating sales is focusing in on holidays or school supplies season from July-September. StackinProfit's first success came from Valentine's Day notebook that sold really well around the time he started last year. I just missed out on Valentine's Day season because I would've done custom cards as well but I'll try that for Mother's Day.

I think it's all about selling stuff that already sells but getting into niches that aren't too competitive as well. The most saturated niche seems to be notebooks and journals but I'm still going to do them no matter what because people will always need them.

My goal starting out is to see what sells the best for me and start to attack that niche. I'm not going to focus on the number of uploads too much I'm just gonna see what does the best for me and just try to scale that up. I think the most difficult battle is using the right keywords and finding the right category. The categories are difficult for books.

I'm doing everything organically too I don't want to use any paid promotion until the 4th quarter of this year.

I'm still going to try my hand at ebooks as well when I have time for it as well with the short book pamphlet method. I'll do my own journey thread if things go well through April.

I'm branding everything under "Saved By the Books" so if you see that name anywhere on Amazon that's me. ;):D

Thanks, bro and I use Photoshop to make those covers. I was already pretty good at Photoshop so it didn't take much to put these covers together just had to search around to find the background texture and the pancake design.

With the cards, I plan on setting it up the same way I'm setting up most of my low-income books. I'm doing a graduation book where people can sign their names and whatever thoughts to the graduate that they want to share. I'm gonna design a 1-page book where on the only page I'll decorate the borders and leave all the middle where the person wants to wish that person a happy birthday with whatever message they want to send. Nobody seems to be really doing this surprisingly so I guess I'll be the first to test the waters.

i've seen some for graduation and birthdays but there's no hard to jump in sorry english its my language so im havinf a hard time to imagine a book style of cards ,
i've no design skill i use gimp i joined the party late dec i made 10 buck LOL then jan 39 and now so far 64 so im really getting better i know thats not a big amount but i just dont wanna compare myself to others when i see their earnings screenshot cus everyone has its own experiences and many other things that can alter the results but yeah im so in to make a good money from this just an advice focus on quality its your best bet to bank in and all the best

You're English is good and I agree I don't know how the book style for cards will really work. It will seem odd as a book, I got the idea from some Etsy people who are doing custom cards as a service but they seem to be in book style. I'll give it a try and see how it goes at the very least.

If you can teach yourself Photoshop you will love it especially if you're already using GIMP as Photoshop is just an upgrade of GIMP and Microsoft Paint. I started with those two before Photoshop back in the day and just got some practice using Photoshop now I can make professional-looking covers. I know covers can determine sells just as well as titles, keywords, niches, and prices can. If you ever need help on covers I can help at a low price.

Man, I feel you, bro, I would be upset myself if I started right around Christmas time in late December. LOL! I'm upset I missed Valentine's Day because StackinProfit was making a killing off of that Valentine's Day notebook. At least you've been making some money and growing every month that's a good sign. As long as your numbers keep rising every month you're in a good spot. I need to make a living off of this so it's going to hurt if I'm not making anywhere near $1,500 within the first few months. You're absolutely right my dude, the last thing people can do is compare their earnings with others we're all going to have a different experience and journey. That's why I don't concern myself with saturated niches or competition because there's enough money for all of us to eat our here and we'll all get our own customers and loyal fans along the way. We all Just gotta keep putting in the work and testing things out.

I'm doing eBooks in between as well just trying to maximize my earnings as much as I can then releasing these low content books a few times a day.

Yeah, I really think quantity is never the answer in any business as quality matters a lot more. I think if you got great quality titles you won't need that many titles uploaded. We all gotta bank on some winners which is why I think covers and price might be the main two driving factors for determining sales. If we got shitty book covers along with shitty prices nobody's going to buy it's as simple as that and I know reviews don't matter either for low content books because so many books don't have any reviews and sell well so I'm not focusing on that unless it's for my ebooks titles or future novels that I might write up where I'm gonna need that fanbase.

Right now I'm trying to focus on both evergreen niches that sell at any time of the year and seasonal/holiday books such as Mother's and Father's Day and graduation season coming up. I wanna get on the birthday stuff because that's celebrated every single day.

Interesting idea, but keep in mind that for printed books on KDP there is a minimum page count of 24 pages.

yep you're def right just try to be a head cus lately the review process been taking more than 7 days so its a good practice to have things up & ready few weeks ago , i've seen some mother's day book already selling & st patrick days too

Interesting idea, but keep in mind that for printed books on KDP there is a minimum page count of 24 pages.
Thanks for the heads up about that I'm just getting started on there so I was wondering what was the minimum amount of pages that we could have for printed books on there. So far my ebooks are under 10 pages and were accepted within a couple of hours of being sent in for review. My printed books are stuck in review still for the past 48+ hours but most of those are between 50-120 pages so I should be good there but I'm glad you told me that it was 24 pages so that I don't submit anything in for review that's less than that in the future because I was considering sending my ebooks through for printed but glad I didn't do it now.

Thanks for the heads up about that I was just telling the previous poster that I've been waiting for 48+ hours so over 2 days now waiting for my printed stuff to get reviewed. The ebooks were reviewed fast like within 2-3 hours of being sent in. Looks like I'm gonna be waiting most of this upcoming week for my first low content books to up live on their site but like you said the key is to have things up and running ahead of time so that there's enough stuff that will be live and future things can get setup.

Yeah, people send that stuff in early as I know people prepare for school season in July-September right now and Quarter 4 as well. St. Patrick's Day is another one I was looking at doing as well especially when we get to that week since it's right around the corner. I've heard some methods where people wait until about 1-2 weeks before the holiday date to get items up I'm guessing newer items sell just as strong as stuff already posted. I will need to get everything up for St. Patrick's Day no later than probably the first week of March due to the lengthy review process. I'll probably end up doing some kid stuff for Easter in April as well.

I'm also looking at doing the Etsy printables business at the same time since they pay way faster than Amazon to help with the cash flow while I wait until late in the spring and summer for my first few payouts.

i've never tried ebooks but i think the rules are not the same for paperback minimum is 24 and the paperpack is taking time in revoew process cus there are a lot of spammers who upload using automation software like merch titans so they're just playing the number game which is not worth ot for their time but they impact us too cus they flood the platforme ,

info: your book need around 7 days i guess to be ranked and findable using keyword thats why its good to get them on live way before plus the review delay is making things slower so its better prepar thing month or more before
