So I lost my job unexpectedly back in December, and I’ve been kinda struggling ever since. It’s been tough to deal with but lately I’ve had somewhat of a sense of peace because I was due for a decent tax refund, as opposed to last year when I owed on taxes. I know we shouldn’t depend on tax refunds like that but at a time when I felt like I needed a break, it was sort of a relief to think that it could be a step towards getting me out of the hole that I’m currently in. Well this morning I got a status update saying that my refund had been applied to a past due obligation or other federal debt. I might even feel a little better if they told me exactly what they were taking my refund for but I’ve yet to find out the exact cause. I’m kinda upset about the entire situation but I know I can’t dwell on it too long because that won’t accomplish anything. I just needed to vent for a moment and release some steam.

There's an offset hotline. (800) 304-3107 Call and they should be able to tell you how much is being held back and why. If it's being taken out because of student loans, you can sometimes call your lender and have them return a portion if you're suffering a financial hardship.

Thanks for this!

Sign up to a college as soon as you can because summer school will start soon! Apply to FAFSA for financial aid which you will mostly qualify since you have no income. Most will go to the school but you might get a part of it. But also apply for a student loan. You will get a couple of thousand dollars. When school starts you will get your money. Drop out of school. In six months you will then have to start paying your school loans but with very low interest, by then hopefully you will have a job.

Is that a phone of one of those IRS Scam Call Centers?
