How does quora rank answers?

I have a quora answer which is lengthy and quite good. It got 30 organic upvotes. Yet an answer with 2 upvote and one without upvotes out ranked me
What could be the reason?

Yes, also the person who upvoted the person above your answer may be what is considered a "quora whale" with substantial views on their account. When they upvote an answer it can take priority because of their account authority.

I have the same problem, their algorithm is probably not that simple. I have few years old account, it has few nice popular answers as well. I have written answer in my topic, bought like 30 upvotes and the answer is still not ranking well. I think there might several other factors than your account authority and that is if you answer in niche that you are "expert" in (this is pure speculation though) and what I think is also important is account authority of accounts that upvoted your answer. Maybe none of the upvotes you received were from really high authority accounts, but if you answer is good I think it will rank over time when it receives more high authority upvotes and in the meantime I would work on rising my accounts authority.

When my answer was new it did rank first but after awhile it went down and older answers went up

I get my answers outranking others and I outrank them without any upvotes (I have a few accounts for upvotes but I don't use them as I see no need).
As some said before, I think it has to do with the authority of the account (I have answered a lot of questions in my niche).

We could do a test if OP wants... I can upvote his answer and we see if there's any difference.

Thanks for your kind offer but i prefer not to disclosure my niche. I checked the accounts above my post and yes all of them has much more views and answers. I think upvote has minor part of the ranking which is disappointing to find out...

Article Quality, Up Votes, Best Answers & Visitors. Drive more traffic to the answer it will rank faster. The best part is, Quora Answer rank very well in Google, So you can build backlink for that, (Web 2, PBN).

Authority is most probably linked with age, and number of followers the author has accumulated over time.

Well Quora would show the answers dynamically on the answer page. If you are logged in and trying to see your answer, you'll find it at bottom. Did you try to check the ranking on another browser or after logging in with different account?

If it still at the bottom then there can be different reasons:
1) Asker didn't find your answer helpful.
2) Your account doesn't have sufficient age, followers etc.

I always check in incognito mode.

i think ,not only you are expert related to niche questions ,but also your upvoters are expert related niche ,right?

I know the best way, I wanted a lot of free traffic to my site and so I wrote over 20 answers all by myself

then I bought cheap upvotes for each answer aroun 10-40 for each

after that I ordered views (visists) from my own panel, staright from google ( google website visits to quora.) Around 3k -10k for each


After this I saw that all answers were bosted and got tons of real views and upvotes, many people came to my site with these. This was in 2019
I Might do this again with new answers soon but this was great!

Quora has authority based on upvotes and author profile. If you're a top writer in a topic, your answers will continue to rank regardless of the competition. Another aspect is recent upvotes. For example, if you have 300 upvotes since 2 years and an answer written last month has only 100 upvotes, it'll still surpass your site due to upvote velocity. You need to understand the ranking factors in your niche to boost your answers.
