The Ultimate TikTok MegaThread

@Putt some quick questions for you or anyone who can help please. I believe you're currently using try Jeffrey to raise your followers?

1. Does TikTok work the same as instagram in terms of showing content to followers? I.E. if I have 1K followers and drop a video, will it only show it to like 200 followers before it shows it to all of them?

2. Does you anyone here have 1K plus followers using an automation bot or manually doing the follow/unfollow method? If so, has it unlocked the live feature for you?

3. How likely do you think it would be that TikTok would give you a verified profile or popular creator tag using the follow/unfollow method?

I'm assuming questions 2 and 3 are unlikely when TikTok see that you have gotten followers by doing the follow/unfollow method rather than viral content. So, add question 1 into the equation and if all your followers don't get all your videos to engage with, I then have to question how effective the follow/unfollow method actually is. If anyone can give their experiences that would be much appreciated.

1. Nope, TikTok does not work the same way like IG at all.

In fact, the majority of your followers will most likely never see one of your videos show up. It's very interesting how it's that different from IG.

On IG, the majority of engagement comes from following, less so 'randoms'.
It seems to be the other way around on TikTok.

This is my breakdown so far: when a video gets posted, TikTok takes a random sample of people and shows it to them. I call this wave 1.
Once this is fnished, it analyzes the data and then starts consecutive waves showing it to more similar people to those people who already liked it.

Interestingly enough, looking at the data of enough videos, I'm starting to notice that it's the engagement is coming more from 'users who don't follow you' vs 'users who follow you'

(right now, my % are showing it at 60/70% 'new users' and '30-40%' of 'followers'. Of course, this data isn't that representative but it gives an interesting insight)

2. You will get the LIVE option unlocked even if you don't have viral videos by just hitting 1000 followers, both through automation & manual.

3. It's HARD to get a verified or popular creator badge. I don't think F/UF matters. There's many criteria being in play.

Interesting! But very weird at the same. It almost defeats the purpose of gaining followers. So may I ask, if that's the case, is there any point in getting an automation bot or manually doing the follow/unfollow method? I mean sure it's helped me gain a few extra views and likes on previous videos already uploaded but if it isn't going to help spread the future videos to them to help build engagement what exactly does the method help with ultimately?

Pffff this thread is on fire with information. I am definitely getting smarter and thanks guys for all the help and especially towards the thread starter.

Well, the purpose is different than on IG. On IG, you want followers to then increase engagement and as a result reach.
I still do believe that having followers who are interested in your content (on TikTok, that is) will over time help your reach.

However, I also believe that it depends on

a) what type of account you have
b) what your content is
c) what your mid to long term strategies are (intent, purpose, monetization strategies)

Say if you sell high priced services, you want more brand loyalty. So having a strong follower base is important.
Say you don't give a damn about followers, and sell low priced products, follower base doesn't matter as* much.

However, social proof is always at work. So you might want to use F/UF to get social proof.

Lastly, the current TikTok algorithm is just that: current. It can change, update and modify over time.
I honestly don't think the TikTok algorithm will remain this way.

Now, no one can predict where it will go. I'm not saying it will become like IG either.
However, I do believe that the current way of doing it won't appeal to many brands over time.

It makes sense that they will make changes (at some point, pure speculation) that will cause more of your followers to see your content.

Again, we don't know for sure.

*Edit: these changes that I'm talking about won't be drastic. However, it's likely that as the 'user base' of TikTok matures over time, changes will be made to cater to the 'newer audiences' (which it already is, BY THE WAY): (see below)

-- I hear people mention all the time 'but there's only broke teenagers' - if you think that, you have no idea what you're talking about. I'm currently reaching US adults in 40-60s with niche US accounts. And the reach & engagement is CRAZY. Especially for low quality low effort posts.

-- Meaning, at this very point, there's already a growing adult presence. Statistics show that especially in the USA, more and more adults are starting to use it. In other words, the trend is moving in age groups. As with every social media platform, the USA usually indicates the trend. If it happens in the US, with a lag time, it will happen in EU and in other regions. FB, TW, LI, IG all went through the same cycles. History always repeats itself (in one way or the other, not always 100% the same way)

-- It's just a matter of time before the user base ages

Great post. Agree on almost everything. We should get everyone's opinion on how many posts per day is optimal. I suspect going consistently over 4-5+ per day can cause a shadowban..

I know this reply was old, but people might wonder: the amount of posts does NOT cause a shadowban.

I have run multiple experiments on multiple accounts, ranging from 10 videos PER hour (posted) up to 20-30 videos PER 24 hours posted.
In no cases was the account or any of the videos shadowbanned.

I believe that 'posting too much causes a shadowban' is a myth.
And I also believe that people say it because they got shadowbanned NOT because of their posting frequency, but rather because of violating community guidelines.

Simple way of explaining it:

Scenario a) let's say you use automation. Every time you post a video, you basically say 'hi TiKTok algo, here I am' - if you do that 3 times a day, that's 3 times you make the system look at you (VERY SIMPLIFIED EXPLANATION, mind you), if you post 20 times, that's 20 times you say 'hi look at me'

Scenario b) similar to the above, if you steal content (copyrighted) or you use material that might be get flagged or reported, by posting more frequently that type of material, there's a higher chance of being 1) reported or 2) noticed by the system.

I'm 99% certain that if you do not violate community guidelines, you could post up to 30 times a day without ANY issue.

Thanks everyone for providing useful information, I'd just like to add something which I tested: If the video is shot vertically it has a huge boost compared to horizontal videos (including flipped ones so that they fill the screen).

appreciate the time you have taken to research and write this guide

I am also very interested in this bot. I spend over $1k per month on bots for my clients. This has unlimited accounts. If anyone has some experiences, please let me know. If not, I'll just buy it and make a review post.

Hey man do you run a marketing agency for tiktok?

I do yes. It's a 'legit' white-hat business for some big brands/influencers so I wouldn't want to nor am I allowed to solicit on BHW. If you want to talk about the business model or any questions then feel free to PM me.
