Paypal recurring payments HELP please

Hello, I've been the last 10 years using Paypal to receive direct payments, now I'm adding subscriptions with recurring payments and I'm having several issues that you maybe can help me solve.

1) Can the clients pay for a subscription using a Paypal account that does not have a verified credit card?

2) If the client decides to pay with credit card, are they obligated to verify their credit cards in their paypal account first?

When paying direct payments you as client do not need to have a verified credit card or anything, if you have enough money in your balance you're ready to go, but with subscriptions is not working like that for some reason... Maybe I'm missing something in the code.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've tried with 2 different Paypal accounts (wife and a friend), both have Paypal accounts with outdated credit/debit cards on it. In both cases they couldn't complete the payment process till they update the credit card. Both Paypal accounts had enough balance to pay for it.

Any suggestions?

The PayPal balance doesn’t really matter, you’re required to have a backup card just in case. The backup card has to be real and with money on it, at least at the moment of subscription.

What's happens when a client that does not have a Paypal account tries to pay for a subscription? Do they need to complete the credit/debit card annoying verification? You know that 3usd that they charge and then you have to check the card bill for the number to verificate. Or they just complete the payment process immediately?
