My wife wants to setup a health/fitness blog. Looking for advice from ideal url, hosting, website setup (wordpress? where you get it?), how to monetize so she can create a income from it, read on here about affiliate marketing ... is this a good route? sorry if this is coming off as total noob questions but need big picture as well as direction to details to make this work for her.

Any and all help is appreciated ... thank you in advance

I can help with this, Let me know when you're available for convo.

plenty of wordpress hosting out there you can buy the cheap one first because this is your startup no need to spent big bucks for premium hosting.
next you have to choose the domain.you can buy expire domain if you want quick result or your wish just type it in domain search grab it if it's available.
next important part keywords you should do the keyword research first.(SEO)
then
write the content
after all you have to design the WordPress its easy just use the free WordPress theme and watch some video on youtube

After all, do just share the post across all social media.

really this is not enough to see the result. people visit your website through google
You have do get into the SEO game to see the real result and money

is your wife going to write the content?

You'd be surprised at the things regular members try charging for .....

But nice gesture on your part for doing this.

This forum converted many NOOBS into PRO, and hereafter they start selling their own brands in this forum instead of helping this forum to grow. I am not like this person. If this platform is helping us to learn something, at least give your 1% effort to this forum.

well then you have to do the keyword research about the topic your going to write else outsource it you can buy the keyword research service from bhw as well check the marketplace

It's pretty simple. I suggest your wife picks a domain name that suites her. I suggest picking something that is brandable. I recommend Porkbun, Namesilo or Dynadot to register the domain. You can also search for available domains on any of their websites too. All 3 ore inexpensive and offer free domain privacy protection. You want this or you will be spammed to death.

For hosting just pick a cheap host that offers cpannel and free SSL certificates. If you need help installing wordpress I would gladly help you (for free). Or you can watch one of many YouTube videos that show you how to do it.

Along with blog, you can also start on instagram and twitter.

This will help you make authority and get followers.

Getting traction on blog will take long time.

Would you suggest finding a expired domain that has incoming links? or create a whole new one? how can you check if the url has been penalized by google in any way?
Any suggestions for cheap hosting?
Thanks for the help so far

If you want to go cheap, go with Host Koala. I think they are like $5 a year. You won't get an SSL but you can use cloudflare for the SSL for free. I have a few sites on host Koala and it's been as good as hosts I pay more per month than I do for a whole year with Host Koala. If you start getting a lot of traffic and making money, then you may want to go with a better host like siteground. When you decide to upgrade they will move your site for you.

As far as the domain, I always pick a new one that is brandable. It's nearly impossible to find an expired domain that is brandable and not have a bad history. You can see what a site was before at archive.org

WordPress definitely would be my choice. And, in regards to monetization, forget about it. You need to focus on building topical relevance and authority in your niche and, your wife just happened to select a very competitive one.

Wait until the site gets some organic traffic before throwing any affiliate links or ads there.

Secondly, I would strongly suggest you link your site to an IG account. The fitness niche works great with that combination. Make sure to post regularly, build an audience first.

In regards to hosting, just go with the Namecheap Stellar Business plan. It's a cloud/based hosting, it's pretty decent, it allows you to host unlimited domains and, at $45 a year, it's pretty damn competitive.

When it comes to theme, my top choice is Astra Pro.

Why?
  • Because it`s among the light-weight and fast loading themes on the market.
  • It comes with a bunch of premade websites (starter sites) fully compatible with all the major page builders in the market.
  • It offers a bunch of customizable features
If you need to customize the site a bit further, you can try with either elementor or with CSS Hero. Personally, I just started to use CSS Hero and it`s just amazingly powerful all the possibility it offers to customize a website without making it too slow.
