Photoshop vs Illustrator? What is better to learn.

In my experience, I used Photoshop a lot more than Illustrator. Knowing both is the best combo for designing. With Photoshop you can do a lot of things and if you learn Photoshop then you already learnt basics of Illustrator. IMO Photoshop is like English language nowadays. You'll need it, in almost every single work you do.

Why is adobe the only option? Have you ever heard of canva? You may find it easier to learn and more efficient to use, if your aim isn't actually to beocme a professional graphic designer.

In my opinion photoshop is a lot more intuitive. It will be easier to learn than illustrator. Also, photoshop is much more broad in its potential uses.

Both are "better" to learn. Learn Photoshop first, and practice a lot. Then learn Illustrator. They're both very useful, and work differently. If you do more line/curve work (like logos, size-independent graphics that don't deteriorate when resized (read: vector), then do the reverse and do Illustrator first.

Adobe Illustrator is vector-based software, meaning you can resize image without losing quality, so if you want to design graphics which require vector file, learn illustrator.

Adobe Photoshop is a Pixel-based software, meaning you can not resize it without compromising on the quality of image, so if you do graphics which requires PNG/JPEG files, learn photoshop.

You first need to start learning vector work, illustrations etc. So must you start with illustrator to get the right foundations and then move to bitmaps.

The first step is to understand the difference between vector and raster graphics, and how they work for different mediums. If you enroll in any multimedia course, this is what they will teach you as the first lesson.

Imo, you need to learn both if you are looking to become a professional graphic designer.

I work since many years with bouth BUT 85% is PS.

Ai i use to modify or create vectors, when you want to be a real pro then ofcourse you should master it all.
Bouth are easy to learn and very similar.

So go ahead, download, check Udemy and here you go.

A friend is a graphic designer from the old days, doing print etc. Not web. He still does most in illustrator and has no need for photoshop for his type of work. Gradients, and all he can do in Illustrator. Now today with web, SVG's etc again you do in illustrator.
Now if you need to start creating shapes, or work with any form of lines to get the shapes before you start doing bitmap work, then learning illustrator 1st is a must.
If you want to go straight into photo-retouching, paint etc. then you should start with photoshop but this is not graphic design.

In the old day there was freehand, if anyone recalls. Amazing but similar alt to Illustrator. I am been involved with pre-press >20 years. Learn properly. Start with the foundations to learn to use pen tool etc and do shapes etc in illustrator and photoshop after and it will feel a natural progression by that time.

Both are equally important, first learn Photoshop and then Illustrator. Photoshop is based on pixels and Illustrator is based on vectors. Having both skills is a plus.
