New cPanel pricing

cPanel is raising its prices and looks to be charging per account past 100. Pricing isn't really clear but expect changes. Not sure if Plesk or WHMCS is also affected.

cPanel alternative is/was trending in searches.

Besides DirectAdmin, anyone have any recommendations?

True. All my clients have either asked for cPanel or didn't have a preference. I think cPanel is probably the default for the majority on a shared plan.

They know how popular their software is with the customer and are just try to get everything out of it. Hopefully this will allow other panels to grow and become better as cPanel is still the best and easiest panel

The new pricing from cPanel is going to effect a lot of web hosts who were offering super cheap reseller packages. Anything past 100 accounts on a cpanel dedicated server license will now cost an extra $0.20 per account. Imagine the price increase this has on suppliers of reseller accounts!

For example lets say we have a web host provider who has 100 resellers on his server and each of those resellers have resold 10 accounts each for a total of 1000 accounts on this one server.

The current price of a dedicated license before the increase is around $35 (from cpanel partners). This will cover all of the 1k accounts.
With the new prices the dedicated server license is $45 (direct from cpanel) and covers 100 accounts. We now have to pay $0.20 per account for the other 900 accounts. This means that the new monthly cost is $45 + $180 for the 900 accounts for a total of $225.

Imagine if you spent the last 2 weeks building a business model and plan around selling cPanel based reseller hosting and you get close to launching only for this to happen. Yeah thats me. I've had to scrap the lot as there is no way I can afford those license prices with the business model I was going to launch.

I would be skeptical of anyone who offers you unlimited reseller hosting on cpanel for pennies in the future. They are either using a nulled cpanel (risky as fuck) or overselling in hopes that their resellers don't add too many accounts.

Lets hope DirectAdmin takes over. I remember in my early days when I wanted cPanel but the hosting provider only had DirectAdmin. I wasn't too keen on it but once I started using it I realized it was just as good. cPanel is a preference.

Oof just got an email from my hosting provider and all of my sites went up by a dollar per month. Personally I'm not hit too hard but I've seen some reports of hosts suffering 8x costs. What terrible business practices. Hope they get punished for this and as a result we get even better software from competition.

These cloud based panels I personally prefer, well I'm using ClusterCS. Anyone know why they have not caught up yet or why they are not preferred these days when they actually free your server and can manage multiple servers from one control panel? To me they are more flexible and I can scale my projects too.

Server Pilot is not butter smooth and is a waste of (monthly!) money IMO.
