I have always considered long-form to be anything over 1000 words but I read somewhere recently that 700 words could be considered long-form what do you guys think?

It depends from niche to niche. For example news articles most of the time is short because people just want to get the information as quickly as possible.

The content number is not 100% something you can bet on. For example, a well written 500 words article will rank better than a bad written 5k words article, so you must concentrate your effort on writing good articles.
After you write a very good article, the next step is to find how much content your main competitors have ( here, the number of words is counts ).

true. I guess I should have specified a little more. If I wanted to incorporate long-form in my SEO how many words should I target at minimum?

There is no absolute standard for the length of words. The first principle is to tell the truth clearly.

Good rule is to look at top sites in SERP results for your target keyword and either write more or the same length

i prefer to write long articles but make sub-articles linking to it and spreading content value. its good strategy

1000-2000 would be my preferred range. Going beyond would make it too much. Also, aside from the word count, make sure that your contents are well written. Good day!

I think long form content may range from 3000-4000 word counts. This helps in expressing yourself what you are offering to your clients or readers.

It depends on how informative it was and usually I do between 700 to 1500 words on each article.

Depends on the niche and the topic you're trying to cover. When writing for any topic, try to cover it fully. Whether it ends up at 1000 or 5000 words, you've made a good piece of content.

IMO, focus on meaningful and interesting article which gives real value for user. If the article is long but not interesting, then reader would not continue to read. And many short article with valuable and interesting fact ranks better than long article. If you want it to be long cover the concepts regarding the topic and make it more interesting.

Depends on the keywords and competitors. Just right a much better and longer content than them.

Depends if the topic demands a briefer explanation or not. Also, wordcounts over 1K is quite good.
