In my experience it's not worth. Ofcourse, I could be wrong. I personally find them either broke, or too rich to even bother hiring a freelancer. Sorry, linkedin lovers.

For remote work, stackoverflow careers is much better. Not sure how it is for the designers though. My experience is in development.

Atleast for stackoverflow (also for github I think), your profile matters. So, before applying for a position, contribute in the related field. You will have a much better chance of being selected.
