How much loading speed is enough for Google?

So I recently got an email from Google Console telling me that one site has speed issues (in most pages), so I checked it with several speed-audit sites, and spend a couple of days making fixes.

This is what Gtmetrix gives me for the homepage:

And this is for a full 5000 words post:

Google Speed Tool is giving me these values:
- For homepage: 98 for PC and 86 for mobile.
- For a full 5000 words post: 91 for PC and 72 for mobile.

I have pressed the "issues solved" in google console, and they will recheck loading times over the next 28 days, but I don't really know what to expect. I definitely made lots of improvements (I believe I had less than 50 google score for some pages before...), and virtually the only thing left would be swapping host, which I wouldn't want to do.



But how much is enough? We know that site speed is a ranking factor, and most likely there is a fixed threshold of which you can be "fast enough" or "not fast enough".
Anybody has any idea what this threshold sits?

More than full load speed they check ttfb, and that will depend on the hosting location, that can be helped with a cdn.

As far as I know, as mentioned above, they use primarily the ttfb.
However, 2.2 seconds isn't to bad..

I think these speed warnings in GWT are new...I didn't start getting them until recently.

Google does not care about speed. It has been proven thousands of times, it only matters for UX and sales. I have sites who rank in the first places with 12 second loading time as well as sites with 1 second loading time.

As for those metrics - Don't go for the green or A-pluses. For a normal website, it's ok to be ~4-6 seconds at gtmetrix and ~3 seconds at pingdomtools.

This may change soon as google is considering adding a warning in chrome that a page may load slowly. Besides, they have added that new speed report in GSC based on chrome real user experience. Which is different from testing tools. There must be a reason for that. In that report anything under 3 sec. is fast, 3-6 moderate, everything else slow.

Sirs, I'm the first one to agree that Google spreads a lot of bullshit about what works or not for SEO, but I think having a threshold for speed loading is a great measurement for user experience, and it is easy to measure/track by them, so I wouldn't be surprised if it actually is a ranking factor.
Anyway, my site loads both in PC and mobile in a very decent way (it doesn't hurt my user experience when I'm navigating through it), so I think I'll leave it like that for now.

2.2 seconds is not bad one. Maintain good loading speed to retain visitors and user experience is much important.

This is still an experiment and it isn't accurate (at least, for now), one of my domain loads under 2s, and it's well optimized in terms of page speed plus ttfb is on point, I still get that same error in the console.

So, I'll safely ignore and keep my focus on other stuffs.

Side note: If anyone ever uses AdSense, then you know google doesn't count page speed.

Honestly i didn't record the previous loading times, but I think they were around 3-4 s instead of 2.3 s.
I'm now waiting for them to check the site again, but they do it over the course of 28 days... I'll let you know when I get the results back, to see if these numbers are enough to please GSC.

I'm reporting back. Got the results of the re-testing by GSC. 2.3 s are apparently not enough, my mobile speed is still bad under GSC's eyes.
But I'm not to going to pay any more attention to it for now. Loading speed is more than friendly enough for the user, and that's what matters to me.

Tools sometimes doesn't show the real speed user feel...

You can google your page, then click it, if it load less than 3 second, you good to go..

My website had 44 score at google pagespeed whereas when i open with my phone and someone else's phone, it only take less than 2 second to get the first contentfull paint....
