First off — when I say rhymes and rhythms — I’m not asking you to become a poet.

Because your copy isn’t a medium for entertainment. The goal is to get people to buy your product/service.

And similar to storytelling, rhymes muscle up your copy too.

Let’s learn how:

An experiment on poetic devices (such as alliteration and resonance) revealed that rhythm and same-sounding signals improve memory — whether you read out loud or in your mind.

When you’re doing small copies — subheads, headlines, and taglines — rhythm can make them much more compelling. Let’s consider some examples:

  • Coca-cola
  • Samsung
  • PayPal
  • Aston Martin
The list goes on.

Although these are world-famous brands already, the rhythm makes them a breeze to pronounce (and adds some swag as well ).

So the question arises — why do rhymes work?

Matthew McGlone, psychologist, Ph.D, ran an experiment, in which they asked people to rate the correctness of sentences.

He discovered rhyming sentences were assumed to be more correct. And it can even help you conform people on topics they disagreed ✋ with.

Let’s take an example:

#1: Caution & Measure Can Bring You Riches.

Compare that with:

#2: Caution And Measure Can Bring You Treasure.

Which of these sentences sound more agreeable to you?

Thought so. The second one stands out immediately.

Rhythm breaches through our logical mind. And since it is connected to our cognitive fluency, our default brain finds them trustworthy.

Before we end this post — remember you don’t need another poetry course on Udemy to write compelling copy.

Just deploy rhythmic wordplay where there’s a chance and you’ll be well on your way.

Thank you for reading through.

Much love. ❤ ❤
