Hey guys,

I usually only focus on SEO but have been asked to setup an AdWords campaign and haven't done it for a while.

Is it not a problem to setup BMM and Exact match campaigns in which every keyword is in both of them? Over time I would then create a top converting campaign based on finidngs from these.

Cheers

Don't start with broad match keywords, I suggest to start with phrase match keywords & exact only. then on scaling you can use broad match modifiers.

If you started with broad match you will lose so much money!

Thanks for the advice!

Is that the case even for BMM with all of them duplicated as exact matches and these exact matches as negatives for the BMM campaign?

You can start with broad match by adding negative keywords. This will starting to your traffic and monitor them closely to avoid wasting your money.
Make sure you use very relevant keywords when using broad match else you will end up wasting money.
With exact match your traffic/impressions will be very low if you do not bid high on high traffic keywords and this is why i suggested you the above strategy. Hope it is not confusing.

Thanks for the input! That’s what I did and it’s going well so far!

Start with Broad Match using negative keyword in the list. This will help your campaign in getting impressions, clicks.
You can try BMM gradually once you know which keyword is converting for your client. Let me know if you have any questions.

thanks I have some data from old campaigns to inform it so started with BMM. Thanks for the offer will ask away in future :)

I would go with two campaigns 1) exact campaign 2) BMM campaign. After a month or 2, you will have mostly 4-5 converting terms, put these terms in to separate campaign with high bids and good daily budget. This top converting campaign would be the place for terms which would be fetched from BMM.

Yeah the plan is to create a Top converting campaign after a couple of months
