They release small updates all the time. But I think it's not common for big updates like last month's or the upcoming one.Google Updates stopped making Me Excited... LOL

Me too from around 7th of January, I lost everything, this is the first time am experiencing such... Though search has never been my primary/major traffic source it's really a thing of concern to me.Worst can't be, I lost 95% of my traffic at January 8.
categories that have high retention and consumers are still watching them closely/live. look at YT investing in live sports , it is one of the last ones where you see the ads coming in as ppl are watching events live.News & Sport is "High" on Semrush sensor I normally tend to find them two categories get hit first ... I tend to look forward to big updates
Great mindset. I am totally 100% with you. SEO has just gotten more competitive. There was a saying you evolve or stay in the same place. Working harder, smarter, and moving forward is the only way to get past losing rankings, traffic etc.To be honest I see nothing wrong with the updates for fear of the wrath of BHW- I'm sick of spammy sites with copied content, poor site construct and 1990 style keyword stuffing (yep I still see this being attempted!) wiggling their way up Big G and knocking more deserving sites off their spots only for folk on here crying "why is my site losing rankings!!". These 'updates' are going to be more and more common.....so what!? I've gained positions, lost huge positions just like everyone else.......I keep working harder and smarter to retain the positions that I need to make $$$. I don't put all my eggs in one basket only for G to smash them all at once. Time is running out for short, sharp earnings - the machine is working harder and smarter every day and if you don't keep up then you're doomed to fail. Don't fight the fire....learn how to be the spark. That's my Monday moan out of the way!

That's exactly what I was thinking. It's like Google is going backwards. Not sure if this is sarcasm, because since the update on 17th December exactly these sites started to rank, while high quality and relevant websites have been pushed out of the serps.
F... Big GWorst can't be, I lost 95% of my traffic at January 8.
Could this be the reason why the Google Search Console snippet with your data disappeared when googling keywords you're covering?
I'm seeing some recovery from November update within the last few hours. Traffic is way up. May or may not be related to this update.
Yes. I have been making changes over the last few months, but I always do. More content and improved interlinking have been the main things.Nice to know someone else was had lost those, thought it was just me!
Did you make any other changes which could have helped?
