Computer screen goes dark for few seconds after restart

Well, shit.

The power supply on this PC has no 8 pin connector and no 6 pin connector. So I have no 8 pin connector to plug in the gpu, and I also can't get an adapter because... well I don't understand it in detail but only a 6 to 8 pin adapter can be used, you can't use 4 to 8 pin adapter. According to what I read on google anyway.

So fuck, it's not possible :/

Well, yeah it sucks. But I did check the new psu that I'm getting for my new computer, and it has an 8 pin connector. So at least that will hopefully be okay.

I put everything back to how it was and turned on the computer. I turned on my programs, I got the blackout, I turned the programs off. Then I turned them on again and things are working as they were.

I didn't accomplish anything, but I did learn a bit of something about modern gpus and psus and connectors.

Anyway... so I guess I'll have to put this on hold. I don't have another gpu to try. And I don't know of any place that will loan me a gpu so I can test this out, and I have no friends to loan me theirs, so, frozen thread for now...

Why don't you swap the power supplies? It's a bit annoying to do, but it's relatively fast, and you would know for sure if it's a gpu problem or not.

Well, that's a thought. But I'm putting together a new computer and all the components are here, except the motherboard... and the power supply

Actually BHW SAVED MY ASS! I was initially planning to get the same power supply for my new computer as I have on my old computer. But I made a thread on BHW about the topic and many people suggested I get a better power supply, and I listened.

Had I gotten the same power supply, it would be here already, and I would be so pissed because I could not use the new gpu with it.

I don't have an office bro. I have a room. And I do everything in it.

Um.. I thought about it for a second, but not right now. I'm spending like $1,000 on the new computer, I can't spend more on upgrading my old computers at the moment. Plus I need to get some dental work done soon which will cost a pretty penny, so I need to chill on the spending right now.

But eventually I'll either get a better psu and gpu for this older PC, or just get a better gpu but one that doesn't require extra power.

I have some good news.I solved the problem here. All of you that said it was as GPU issue, you were right

I was putting together a new computer in the past few days, I ran into many problems, but in the end I still couldn't get the computer to perform well. Somehow I figured out that it's a GPU problem, and disabling the GPU solves it.

Then I wondered, how come my other computer (the one I started this thread about) works with the GPU installed and active? I never disabled the GPU on that one. And I'm using both computers in the exact same way and the same purpose.

So I went and opened Device Manager, and I see a yellow checkmark on the GPU. I right-click on it and click Properties, and what do I see:

"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)"

That's what the "blackouts" were. The blackouts I started this thread about, the screen going dark. It was the computer disabling the GPU. Sometimes I would not manage to get a blackout and the computer was super slow and lagging. Often I would waste time opening programs, not getting a blackout, then restarting it, trying again, and doing all this stupid stuff and wasting time.

So... I went in device manager and Disabled the GPU. I restarted the computer, turned on the programs I use on it, no blackouts, no problems, everything works smooth.

Problem solved, I'm so happy
