I met this guy yesterday, he asked "what do you do?" I said "web design"
I usually say "web design" and not "seo" because most people have no idea what i'm talking about when I say "seo"
well i say that to the guys. to the girls i say "I run my own marketing company" because if you say something technical they will think you are boring.

anyway, don't read any of the above because it's not relevant. he said he used to work for an seo company. they would charge each client $1000 a month for "yelp maintenance"
what does "yelp maintenance" mean? you would think it means getting fake reviews, or contacting current clients to get real reviews. but no, that's not what it means. it means doing nothing. they had 10 yelp clients, they charged each one $1000 a month. They made $10k a month for doing nothing. he said every once in a while they would get one fake review, but that was a rare occurence. most of the time they were doing nothing.

now imagine having 100 yelp clients. now imagine not just offering yelp services, but other marketing services.

I feel like there are a few smart people who are making a shit ton of money in seo, and they are not on this forum or if they are they don't talk about it.

People are not going to share their bread and butter methods for making easy money.

I've had the pleasure over the years to meet, talk with, network, have dinner with some really great SEO guys who range from whiter shade of pale WhiteHat SEO through to some who are pitch black BlackHat SEO.

There are some great local SEO methods out there, which still work and are borderline legal, which can bring in an extra few $k per month. These are simple, play on the fact the client is an idiot who knows nothing about local SEO and is baffled by bullshit.

Actually they are doing sth.
Lieing to other people in the moat genius way.
That takes skill. Why dont u try it if its that simple.
Btw i dont do these kind of things nor do i encourage them.

I am sorry but this is nothing to be proud of. They are scamming their clients. They lie and promising 1000$ month's worth of value and give much less. This is like saying Hey I just stole from this guy 2000$ from his pocket. He didn't notice me. How good am I ?
Finding people who will pay you a 1000$ a month for doing almost nothing is not easy. Giving this value to someone is much harder. I would not like to be the client of their company and I am sure nobody in this forum will. If this reputation alone doesn't make you think twice about the advantage of this kind of company you should look again.

It's David Blaine's method.. Magiic lmaao

Everything is possible but not easily, i don't think it is smart work!!

It is easier than you think.. It is called "A Great Sales Page" & "Amazing Email Swipes" followed with a talented home based "Call Center" ;) Talking on the phone with potential clients is 1000x times more effective to "Seal The Deal" then with email marketing or paid ads.. Native English accents works like MAGIC on the phone. B2B deals.. $$$$ Daily..

@MisterF

I am just starting out local SEO company for local small business. If you don't mind, can I discuss some ideas with you to be successful in the business.

Thanks.

Offer a great service, don't take the piss with prices.
Ensure what you are selling works, so keep testing.

I dont think they are lying or scamming. They promise Yelp management and thats exactly what they do so.. they probably answer negative reviews as well and some other small craps. If you find a way to buy something for $1 and sell it for $100 is this a scam? Nope. Its good business. Same with them - they found a niche to charge high for service that cost them close to nothing time wise. Great for them!

As long as these clients are paying him from the money they don't need for their survival, I think it's all good. There is nothing shady about this. This is what consultants get paid for - doing things which the client "believes" he doesn't know or can't do it himself.

A scam in my eyes would be when a broke guy comes to you to learn "how to make money" and you demand money from him to teach him how to make money, for which he must now borrow money from somewhere to read or learn recycled methods that don't work anymore.

Really sound very appealing at first read, and will attract a lot of clicks, but a deeper reflection will reveal that its just going to be a marketing gig and it can actually pull alot when used in "SEO". This will only pass for a scam as it is realistically not possible.

I will just ask you this. If you were a client, paid them 1000$ and then knew exactly all the things they were doing for you. Were you happy to be their client? If the answer is no, they are doing something wrong. This is not a deal where one is losing and one is winning both should come out happy from the service provided. Their worth is based on the fact that the client is not aware to the full extent of their work. The cost itself is also an issue. If they would take 100$ a month it is very different from taking 1000$ a month for "maintenance"

I will just ask you this - if I sell you something for $100, and then ill tell you that I buy it for $1 are you going to be happy? This is not how the business operate, nor how the market dictate prices. If I can get you $1k for something I got for $1, then thats what I will be charging. If I can get $10k, then thats what ill be charging. Thats how the free market operate - supply and demand. Obviously those guys offer a service that they value at $1k - if the clients agree to pay that price, then thats exactly what the service cost. If the clients "know everything" they will be doing the job themselves, you know? And the world economy will crumble.

There's a little more to it than being a native English speaker.

The title is misleading. he may not be doing hard work but he is playing smart. it's not a scam work but a smart work.
