so nobody has shared any resource from where the OP can get some work... yet everyone is happy to preach that $3 is a very low rate...
as for native writers sh*t, I have seen some horrible stuff from actual american based writers as well as editors. So that "native" thing is nothing but a marketing gimmick anyway.
The content quality, on the other hand, is something that speaks for itself (no pun intended)
If you are writing filler content by just rephrasing every other article out there, then it doesn't worth $5 per 100 words. However, if you are giving me a researched piece with actual actionable advice, then i would be more than happy to pay $4 per 100 words.
For instance, if I would need an article on "How to Up your marketing reports using Google Analytics", i would be interested in seeing actual working guides with pictures and step-by-step tutorials rather than just "4 benefits of Google analytics" type content.

Thank you, i'll give it a tryFirst thing that is coming to my head is to simply create an outstanding portfolio with your best work. Do some research and be easily reached on Google as well.. Then I would just write short e-mail to blogs, agencies and so on.. then it's only numbers game. If you send 600 personalized e-mails ( 20 every day) throughout a month, I'm sure that you will close at least 1-2 clients that will pay you reasonable price for your services. It's time-consuming.. but if you are having no clients then you have nothing else to do..

I contacted some clients with the free sample offer on their chosen topic, but no response. That means i get no reply to send the free sample for them. I use google to find the freelance writing tasks, so i guess the listings have expired since most of them are a few days old. I assume they've picked someone.
I spend sometime researching articles, i read multiple articles on different sources and then come up with my own unique content.
I've also written some "how to guides with screenshots" a few months ago, and he is happy with the content, but it's just that he sends little work in a month, like 2-3 articles a month.

May I ask where do you guys get clients? I tried Fiverr and got some good reviews but then the clients would ask for more content and I wasn't available, didn't have time, and slowly my gig stopped getting traction.
I applied for Upwork but got rejected and can't submit any proposals, they told me to re-customize the profile and re-apply.

I am not using any spun content nor rewriting some articles line by line. i spend some time researching all articles i write. even i feel like it's somehow low, but i thought online freelancing is too competitive these days.

The rate should not be $ per article but based on words.
I am using some content groups on Facebook and also sending proposals on digitalpoint for writing gigs posted which are very few, like 1 new posting every 3-5 days. I am also thinking of joining upwork, but from my research most applications got rejected as you've mentioned.

Books like that are just heavily marketed re-written ghostbooks. I mean read the GOOD stuff. It's not going to be popular, so you got to really dig to find good information.

Of course i keep the word count in mind to adjust the rate according to the number of words.
