So your webpage loading speed is fast., and it gonna boost your SEO ranking.

My competitors average webpage size is 1-2MB too.

But its hard for me to do the same as I got lots of images, and javascript code.
If I remove all those images my website gonna be plain and left with only text. :/

Optimize your images and minify your JavaScript files if you haven't already, I would say 1-2mb is large unless you have a lot of large images. If you optimize well most pages can be under 500kB

IMPOSSIBLE, I repeat, impossible to know. All websites serve a different purpose. Some need to show more images/media than others. Some are built differently. It's like saying: how many hairs should my head have?

Better focus on a fast first-paint and a fast page load RELATIVE to the content you're showing.

Do not think this way.
All that you have to do is to try to focus on your user experience providing all of the necessary pictures and media.
That comes with website speed optimization:

• image compression, use resmush it for WordPress, do it manually for other CMS'
• Lazy Images Loading, there are many WordPress plugins for this as well. You can search for other CMS' or use a custom script if you can't find one
• Combine CSS, JS files, compress them and put them in the page bottom (bottom of the HTML page)
• Avoid URLs internal redirects for custom scripts/pictures and CSS files (any similar one as well)
• Resize pictures, if you are presenting a picture with a size of 500 x 200 make sure the picture is in that size, not bigger
• Add Expires headers, returning visitors will not have to download files each time they give a visit, you can set a custom time for them to expiry
  
• Enable Gzip compression

Optional:

• Use CDN
• Get a better web hosting if it's needed

If you make sure to do the majority of these, you don't have to remove any picture. In fact, if you check this webpage from backlinko: https://backlinko.com/mobile-seo-guide, it's ranking #top1 in "mobile SEO" which is a very competitive keyword.

There are some good replies in this thread, but what’s the deal with the “4mb is the best” crowd? Are you just trying to grow your the number of your posts?

The smaller the better. If you try to rape my limited mobile data connection with a 4mb page for no reason, i’m going to be mad and never return. If you write a long ass post with tons of pictures e.g. a case study, a detailed guide, then it’s acceptable.

Keep it as low as you can. I would say, keep it within 200kb if possible. You can defer loading the heavy resources like images and js files. Once document is ready, you are free to loading 10 mb if you need to. Just make sure that the user experience (while loading the resources) is good.
