Idexed or not indexed?

For years I have assumed the definition of 'indexed' was if I could find the page in Google.....

I've been running my backlinks through several index checkers and they're saying that my links are not indexed (despite them showing up in google).

What definition of 'indexed' are they using?

Have you checked with "cache:your backlink url" in Google? If your backlinks shows with this query then it's index in Google.

The index checking tools are (almost) all broken now - they basically give you false reports.

See usually, I'd assume this to be the case ... but there is correlation between the reports saying they're indexed and Search Console's 'latest links' report.

The ones Ahrefs and Moz are saying are not indexed do not show in 'latest links'... again, despite them showing in a google search

Moz, Ahrefs or any other 3rd party crawlers are NOT related in any way to Google index. Ahrefs/Moz crawlers are following the links and get pages in their index regardless of Google index status. So this is completely irrelevant.

2. If it is showing search this cache:yourlink
if it doesn't give you an error that means.. your link is both indexed and cached

But
if it is showing only when you search your link and not in cache:yourlink then your page is indexed but it hasn't been cached yet.

Do site:url on googlen if it finds the page, then it is indexed... if not, then not.

Whatever else your tool says isnt correct.

Example (site:URL) if google shows your page then it was indexed
