Rank and rent / local lead generation

Are any of you guys exploring this business model and finding any success? have you managed to rent out / sell your local sites or leads? I am currently trying the model on a noncompetitive local service keyword that gets 800ms and am on page 2, so still some time before I can rent it out.

I have tried this and the experience has been frustrating. First, it's hard to sell a lead gen idea. You would think it's easy, you just contact a company and say "I can bring you leads" and they would be eating out of your hands, but no, it's hard to find a smart businessman who sees the value.

There is also the issue of control. I like to be in control of my own life. When you do this, your business and life is in the hands of another person. You have zero control over what happens to the leads. If the guy is lazy and didn't call, you just lost a client. You give the guy a lead at 8 am and he calls at 10 am. Guess what? in those 2 hours the client had already signed with another company.

There is also the issue of dishonesty. You have zero idea what happened to a lead. You simply can't call every lead and confirm "did you sign?" I was giving my leads to this company and out of 100 leads, 99 leads were not signing, which didn't make any sense. The ones that were signing were low value ones. So the lead that would have made me $1000 supposedly didn't sign, but the lead that would make me $50 did sign? I really really doubt that you will find someone who will give you credit for 100% of the leads that you bring. It's not gonna happen.

The biggest issue is when you do this, the company can easily figure out your strategies and copy you. I was giving this company leads and their coward of a SEO guy figured out that all I was doing was keyword stuffing my GMBs in various cities to generate leads. so this coward started doing the same to their own existing GMBs (to the GMBs that they had before they met me) and COMPETING WITH ME! WTF?

When I get the the #1 position for my site I’ll most likely rent the site out for a monthly fee. My site is in the cleaning niche and I know these leads can go for £10 per call, my site should generate a minimum of 30 calls per month so I’ll try to get £300 per month. This means I don’t need to worry about getting paid for each individual lead. Im also doing organic search instead of GMB, which can still be copied but will take a lot more effort than ranking a GMB IMO

When I get the the #1 position for my site I’ll most likely rent the site out for a monthly fee. My site is in the cleaning niche and I know these leads can go for £10 per call, my site should generate a minimum of 30 calls per month so I’ll try to get £300 per month. This means I don’t need to worry about getting paid for each individual lead. you can try that but it would be hard to convince someone to pay you anything. Most businessmen are stupid and will say "but what if I don't get any leads?" most don't want to take risks. Maybe I am a bad salesman and if you're a smooth talker it will be easy for you.

You will rank eventually, the issue here is working with these businesses.

I worked with some idiot that owns a very big roofing company and he would call me every 10 min about this lead and that lead and asking dumb question... I eventually told him to fuck off and keep buying his leads from home advisor [which are far lower quality than what I provided him]...

so if u were to do this i highly recommend dealing with lawyers, doctors and such and definitely avoiding roofers/plumbers and all that crap... avoid blue-collar imo

@firstnamelastname Just saw ur comment, the issue is NOT selling them the leads... u simply tell them "i'll send u the first 5 leads for free" and they'll bite. The problem is the "customer service " u have to give them afterwards.

they'll want u to refund them for many leads if they cant convert, for instance if their sales ppl are shit and can't close or if its out of their service area or they just dont wanna do the job... I thought its only because they are small but i worked with a multi-million dollar roofing comapny [biggest in my area] and they acted the same... so fuck them there are easier ways to make money and they can fight over leads from home advisor where each lead is sent to 1000 people at once lol

I’m using twillio to track calls, And will be able to provide reports of calls every month to the client so they know exactly what they are paying for. I’d most likely allow a free trial of leads for like a week just to get it rented out faster and build trust with the client

This is why I’d most likely rent my sites/leads for a monthly fee, this way I limit how much talking and customer service needs to be done.

I am talking about zero upfront cost. you would be surprised at how disinterested people are at FREE leads.

I also don't claim to be the master of rank and rent, maybe I did things wrong so I am interested in other people's experiences and how they managed rank and rent, what industries to target, what industries to avoid.

IF you're gonna email them like all the other ppl online and like "hi FREE LEADS BRO FREE LEADS" obviously theyll be like fuck off scammer. but if you'll call them and be like "hey i really want to start a relationship with uguys, seems like you're a great company how about I send a couple leads your way see if they bring u good business and then if you like it we talk prices? " that'll work like a charm [worked for me]

I don’t know much about affiliate but there is a lot less offers for the market I am in (UK) and probably less money for the effort I put in. I know that there’s plenty of money to be made in local rank and rent as there is a company in my city that does this exact same thing, I had a look at their company financials and they are doing £100k+ a year so hopefully I can find success in it too.

I know that there’s plenty of money to be made in local rank and rent as there is a company in my city that does this exact same thing, I had a look at their company financials and they are doing £100k+ a year so hopefully I can find success in it too.

Cool mate well the best tip i can give you then is dont be afraid to pick up the phone and call these businesses + try to meet them in person. Most affiliate marketers wont do that and it gave me a big advantage when i did... don't just send emails

That’s the plan, my website right now actually has no content on it, it’s just blank pages and is ranking on the second page of a 800ms keyword purely because of the titles and page descriptions (+citations and links). I reckon once I get the website copy done, I’ll break into the first page. My plan to get it rented out is to just contact businesses that are advertising with Adwords, businesses that know the true cost of a lead.

I agree.

I tried it in the past with very little success. Managing business contacts, tracking leads and invoicing them was a nightmare.

What works better for me is simply sell an advertising space for fixed monthly price. Like a banner for $500/m. Pitch it as targeted traffic and brand recognition. (tell them a tale about physical store in the middle of a grain field in comparison to busy street)

I did something similar with a website. I targeted three different cities. I handled the leads and booked the services for the clients. I contacted the people who were doing the services and I was able to get contractors prices. Then I just upchared and made $50-100 per lead.

It was going well and I was making 2-3k per month. The biggest issue was how time consuming it was. You are constantly playing the middle man. I was doing this on top of my full time job. I had to eventually drop it though as I could no longer juggle both. Tracking software, invoices, QuickBooks, huge credit card bill (the rewards were awesome though.)

It would be worth doing If it was full time though.
