What is the Best SEO URL structure one should use?

1- Custom Structure: https://sitename.com/category/health/ =====>redirect to https://sitename.com/health/7 Sneaky Reasons Your Hair Is Going Gray Too Soon


2- Post name: https://sitename.com/category/health/ ======> redirect to https://sitename.com/7 Sneaky Reasons Your Hair Is Going Gray Too Soon


And why in the world Yoast Plugin won't let me have the "category" on the URL as before i install it, it shows like this https://sitename.com/category//category/health/post title , and when i installed the Yoast Plugin it went to this: https://sitename.com/category//health/post title without the category on the URL !!!!!!

Is your website a blog/information site?

The only website type were /category is "mandatory" is ecommerce, other than that you can do it as you like.

I checked now ahrefs and backlinko to see how they have structured their links and only ahrefs has the /blog/post_title structure. Whereas Backlinko has the domain.com/some_post_kw structure.

So bottom line, there is no right or wrong way. Just do the one you think is best for your website.

I feel yoast plugin structure is good but let’s see what others say

I checked now ahrefs and backlinko to see how they have structured their links and only ahrefs has the /blog/post_title structure. Whereas Backlinko has the domain.com/some_post_kw structure.

Yeah, i checked 6 sites that ranking for healthy food niche and they all have like this Structure :

https://sitename.com/healthyfood/ with all healthy articles on that category and when you click on an article it redirects to ======> https://sitename.com/healthyfood/Postname, so the category name remains in the URL and follows with the post name

If you have choice - go for 1. Custom structure

That's what i did even if Yoast plugin won't let me add the "category tag" before the category name itself on the URL
