Parasite SEO in Medium, rank #20, then gone

Hi, so I dabbled on parasite SEO once more, but I don't want to repeat the same outcome...

So day 1, posted the article worth 3000+ words (all kW researching is done before hand)

Day 2, blast with social shares and signals

Day 3, ranking shoot up to position #20, at the same time, started doing my own manual link building (quora, social profiles, high quality site blog comments, etc). I started 3 for this day.

Day 4, it was gone from top 200, but it is still indexed. Added 2 backlinks.

Day 5, added more backlinks. Still nothing.

Day 6, added even more backlinks and social shares/signals, still the rankings didn't come back. One of the backlinks from crunchbase is ranking at #56 instead, but nowhere to found the main parasite page.

I give up on Day 7. It seems like it's acting like penalized, but then it's a parasite SEO so it shouldn't be.

What am I doing wrong?

Should I have waited more time?

Should I switch platform?

Yea if I was Google and I saw those links blast like no tomorrow, I would ban your ass too.
Except these days, it takes at least 2 months to see the effects of your links so be patience

Check out the indexed cache of your medium page. I think medium adds noindex or nofollow if they detect link blasts.

I would be patient ,I've never had a medium banned or d-ranked using parasites
The first blast just looks like its gone viral to google - if u keep adding blasts every day it then looks iffy imo.
My formula is blast 2k get 600 - 800 to stick.
leave for 2-3 months change (or add) the content of the page by about 10%. (this really helps with ranking imoa)
Blast another 2k - wait 6 - 12 months rinse repeat.

Why is it called parasite ?

Contents that can be created within other sites. As a parasite, you try to profit from high reputation sites which permit creating contents within.
Medium is a strange hybrid between parasite and web 2.0, because it lets you create a whole page, but you access to a route within their domain /your-page instead of a subdomain as most web 2.0
The difference between a web 2.0 and a parasite, is the URL. A web 2.0 offers a subdomain while a parasite offers a directory within that domain. This is important because in Google eyes, a directory is part of the domain (and withholds the DR) while a subdomain is technically a whole new domain.

What am I doing wrong?

In just 7 days you are still dealing with the sandbox... wait (or create new contents in other parasites). Google is like a wheel, just keep working on other projects while one is going awkward. Don't put too much effort on one unit but a little effort in a lot of units

It's a parasite page, not a self-hosted, brand new domain, just in case you missed it again.

Check out the indexed cache of your medium page. I think medium adds noindex or nofollow if they detect link blasts.

It's still indexed, no NoIndex, and the NoFollows are natural refs tag from the page TO the affiliate links.

Thought sandboxing is not common in parasites.... Hmmm, should I continue "drip feeding" the backlinks instead of stop-and-wait?

Just continue, sandbox is only meant to repositioning. Continue with the same strategy and work on other bits at the same time.

What you can do is open another Medium Account spin your post and put a link into that one pointing to your pillar.. then blast it - compare strategy - and send some internal link juice to your main article at the same time.

"Yes" I refer to pillar posts because its the same method if you were building your own site.

The Google dance is very real, my friend. Keep at it and wait it out. As others have said - focus on other projects and just keep adding a few links here and there along the way. It's also worth noting that some recent updates may be at play as well. Just keep an eye on it and keep trucking.

As I said to the other user, Medium is a weird parasite. It's half way through a parasite and a web 2.0. Given the relevance of Medium, I'm 99,99% sure that Google already has flagged the @ dirs the same way as if they were subdomains from a web 2.0. Therefore, the same rules are common parasites don't apply to Medium

Also, the sandbox apply to the 100% of the site online... The sandbox is just a way to check how to rank a page. They generally benchmark for a while (up to 1 week) and they put your site in relation with other sites in the same niche taking in consideration all the factors that the algorithm consider. During the sandbox period, you will get a lot of impressions in the ranks, so CTR will be another decisive factor (to avoid ranking for a wrong keyword). This is mostly why, shit sites fear the sandbox. Legit sites with a good meta information go through the sandbox without hassles.

7 days is obviously too less of a time to get any conclusion. Wait for a week or more and keep building the links.
