Either:

1) They changed the rules and now it's against them.

2) (More likely) They didn't notice a year ago and now it breaks the rules.

Either way: yes, it breaks the rules.

Adult contents are allowed on twitter though. Well, some user might reported your account having an adult content, though you should set it right in your settings so twitter can filter you away from minors and users who opt not to see any NSFW contents. Another thing was you are using a copyrighted material and someone reported it.

this is unlucky. twitter seem to allow adult content a lot more explicit than that!

Sometimes they randomly check for older posts by real people. So it’s open to interpretation by the reviewer. Same with Facebook ads and such.
