And sometimes. I prefer to tell my clients my hourly rate face-to-face because most people become scared when I tell them I charge 300 euros an hour.

Pros don't go away and work out a "real quote". Pros have their material and knowledge ready to close.
I may make an offer sometimes where I end up with 250 euros an hour. I'll survive.

You have no material to close when you have no clue what the client wants.

Obviously talking to a wall.

I know the is mind-boggling - but you can make a flyer or something. Give the client an understanding of what you can do. It doesn't just matter what the client wants - The only thing the client wants is to make more money. "he said that he needed some help with Facebook ads, SEO and a simple website" - You have everything you need there. He needs a website and he needs new customers through that website. Unless the client starts requesting custom features for the website, then it's all pretty straight forward. The only question is really if he really needs Facebook Ads since Google Ads will perform way better in that industry.

All you care about is he wants some SEO and a Website. You don't know what it's for, what he wants to promote sell or target. As long as he makes money thats all that matters. Cool.

"local bike repairman" - I do understand why you're having trouble if you can't assume that a local bike repairman most likely wants to sell more bikes... Locally.

And I didn't say it DOESN'T MATTER. I said it "Doesn't JUST matter". 9/10 of this type of client has no idea what they need.
