Could be just searching your area for places to rob, I would report to the police, also I would keep your keys away from the front door, keep them In a tin, a lot of mercs BMWs electric cars are being remotely accessed and stolen, I would also install cameras just for your peace of mind, hope nothing happens

the way i see it, a crime was commited within your vicinity, he was checking to ensure there is no record of him and/or his associates.

Late on this. But as you are UK based. All you need to do is check the curb or pavement or if you have a wall low line bricks for a line or a cross - if you have been targeted your house will be marked for a winter visit. The marks normally let people know which ones to hit and which ones not too back where I used to live it used to look like a T with another line next to it.

The person who visited would not return that day so waiting up that night was just a loosing a good night sleep!

Its darker. Scouting the drive way is normally car parts, taking fuel, breaking into the car. Less people are out and about as its colder. Windows are closed to keep heat in, people sleep through all sorts.

Also some of the cheaper PIR lights do not work as well in the cold (even in the UK) some will not trigger at all...

The question is whether you live and show a life where someone would pick your house to rob over the next mans'. I don't think you have much to worry about. But just to be on the safe side, you could knock on your neighbors' doors ask them if the same guy had visited them or they noticed him lurking around.
Also people not from UK suggesting to get cameras should know there is an abundance of CCTV cameras on almost all busy enough streets and junctions. Not forgetting it would be incredibly stupid to break into a corner house with only one way to exit, particularly if your house and life doesn't stand out much from the rest.

I don't agree.
There's stories I hear about in my country & they're quite slick.

They pretend to be some person who needs into a home for some reason, and this is how they scope the place out before a robbery. Is there animals? Is there a security set up? Is there valuables? Are these people soft? Many questions which can be answered simply by walking into your home before they come a month later all masked up.

How can you prove the guy who came a month ago did it? Who is he? Who does he work for? How do you know it wasn't a random robbery?

It could also be similar to a data seller, just in person.

To the OP,
IMO now is the best time to get security cameras & A security alarm system. If they were so concerned they would have walked over to your neighbors and you would've noticed him over there prior, not to mention your neighbors would be coming out to talk/listen if they're those type of people . And if anything, if there was an incident, you should've noticed a higher police presence around the time it happened (days before , or that day).
Next time somebody asks, say "yeah. I live with a few buddies, we have cameras & guns, what did this guy look like? That's not normal around here mate"

As a Londoner so shocked you fell for this shit, go and report to the police, then go Argos get some camra up.

Many scams out there be very careful, he was seeing if anyone was home, I think it was your car was going to try and nick there and then but you were in and caught him.

When he mentions his daughter really should have said police are on there way now m8, see his reaction.

Get the camera in, make sure your front door fully secure trust no one.

You no in London they work in gangs be vigilant.

When not using the car, take the battery lead off or install a cut off switch, I don't trust alarms so my dad still uses a steering and foot pedal lock.

If there was an incident like he said it be on the file, so reporting this will let the police no if it the truth or not.

He had no right being on your property full stop.

If that was me ill be swearing at him to fuck off and called the police.
