How to decide on a copy writer

Just finished building my niche site and it's time to fill it with content. My issue now is I'm having a hard time deciding on a copy writer. Prices all over the place and alot of mixed reviews. Is my best bet just to order some small 200-300 word articles from a few vendors and see what I like?

Realistically you want to be asking for what you are looking to buy. If you're planning on filling your site with 1,000 word articles then you want to buy 1,000 word articles.
Choose a type of article you want (reviews, informative, etc.) and choose multiple keywords of the same type and give to different vendors. Ideally you would want the same article to make comparison easier but you don't want to waste you more either.

Good copywriters cost money . The other non talented ones are cheap for a reason , no disrespect


Study the reviews here , and try to find someone here .


Be specific , if you want something poetic , make sure you ask them if they are able to write something poetic .

Personally, i believe this is your best option. Buy a handful of small articles and evaluate the work first hand by yourself.

Many will tell you yo ask for samples and/or check the writer´s portfolio and experience but all of this can be easily staged.

I´ve heard writers that are reselling others people´s writing service actually pay to get a couple of high-quality articles and use them as samples to hand over to potential clients and "hook" them more easily.

When you test the content providers in the Copywriting section of BHW, I suggest that you give them very detailed instructions.
It's acid test to know who's detailed-oriented and who's not.

Interview them on Skype, too. The experienced ones will give you more suggestions than questions.

Don't rely solely on pre-written samples. It's not guaranteed that those who wrote those samples are still working for them (content providers).

Decide if you want to invest in your site, which means not opting for Nateeve Engerish articles at $3 per zillion words.
Look for someone who is experienced in your niche who can write. 99% of writers write about things they have no clue about, they read other articles and rehash these.

If you have the budget then you have the option to hire 10 writers, ask them to do a 300 word and give them all the EXACT SAME CRITERIA - Topic, tone etc etc.

Then compare what is sent to you. From here you narrow down those who interest you.

It's a long winded approach, but I narrowed down probably 500+ applicants to 42 writers I now have.

I don't have a crazy budget going into this (around $150) but looks like im just going to have to suck it up and spend some money. Also on average what are you guys paying per 100 words

200-300w might be too short. Always prefer >700w, so you get the hang of an entire article from a visitor's perspective.

Considering lots of options there, this should do the trick - wise move. Detailed instruction will still be needed, tough. To filter out junks who doesn't care with your stuff

The problem is when you are ordering content in foreign language that you don't speak.
