Is it possible to scrape sign-up emails?

Hello Ladies and Gents!

Someone asked me today:

Is there a program/way one can get the emails people used to sign up on a website?

The question came during a discussion regarding how good can we, as business owners/site admins, protect our clients/users data.

I didn't know the answer and Google doesn't really try it's best to show relevant results regarding ways to steal information...

Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

There is no program to get the emails from a random website that has a sign up page. There is a way, and is illegal, hacking. But even this way won't work if the website code has no bugs or the server software is up to date.

You'd probably get more answers if you led you question with this. If security is that important to you, I'd look into hiring a consultant or firm to protect you user's data.

I'm pretty sure movie streaming, fake game hacks, re-uploading and a number of other "methods" here are illegal to a degree, yet they sre discussed over and over again.

As for hiring a consultant... it was a discussion between friends, I won't hire a consultant to answer a question asked over a cup of cofee...

Not true, there is a distinct difference between illegal and unethical.

I believe that's as black hat as discussions really go here. I never knew why movie stream discussions are allowed, but anything related to hacks/exploits is definitely prohibited.

You are absolutely right!

I'm not sure if game hacks methods where you have someone complete a task, then give them nothing can be counted as a scam... Maybe, maybe not, bit I'm pretty sure it's not illegal.

Owning and running a website where you stream movies/ share software, etc without a licence is illegal since your actions have a direct impact on the producer's revenue. So it's the case with gaining financial benefits from re-uploading videos, including porn.

Now that no LE agency will ever spend resources trying to find the guy that stole a 2 min porn video, that's another discussion, but try and make openly available let's say "The Grand Tour" or something of the likes and I promise your site's going to go down fast with yout heart skipping a beat every time someone's knocking on the door.

Or maybe I'm wrong, I'm far from being an expert on what exactly constitutes "breaking the law"..
