I see on whois that a domain has expired but somehow the registrar still is holding it.

How do I place a backorder on this domain? I have tried Namejet.com to place backorders but it seems like Namejet only provides backorder for sites they list (ie. if you have a site not on their list, you can't place a backorder on them). Are there such services out there?

Thanks.

You can use Godaddy or Dropcatch

The domain is actually on godaddy. But godaddy seems to be functioning strangely. It is listed on the auction page for $22. But when I click it, the figure explodes to $44. Not sure whats going on....

Correct, NameJet is the auction house partner for eNom, DirectNIC, etc.

GoDaddy is its own auction house partner, as well as for Wild West, PDR, etc.

Its quite normal. You are paying the auction price ($22) then for the renewal / transfer of the domain, and then VAT (if you are in EU) so the price naturally goes up.
