First of all, I'd like to thank this community. I've been a member since 2015 and I've lurked hard and posted a little.
It's time I call upon this group of awesome people to see if I can get some suggestions. Having someone outside looking in may be able to help me out.
This is going to be a long post, so here's the shortened version:
tl:dr - I've spent years as a paid writer, building my own blogs, learning SEO, and slogging along with ads. I used to make several thousand a month from affiliate and ad rev, but that has long stopped... including my paid writing opportunities. Is it worth putting in more time and effort to get my entities earning money again, or should I just chalk up all of these years as a loss and just try to find a job that will pay my bills? My mother got sick and my family turned on me, so I essentially have lost my family and that overwhelming depression keeps me from mustering up the umph to keep trying. I've been on suicide watch and even have had police officers show up at my work to check on my well-being.
My Story
In 2012 I met someone who had a smaller Youtube channel that offered health, lifting, and nutrition advice. I befriended him and he taught me SEO, blogging, and best practices. I've worked a few different gigs with him as he was an editor and he would get me on as a paid writer. We still talk, he's my coach still, but he no longer is an editor where I was earning the $1500 a month I desperately needed.
In fact, I moved in with a friend to lower my rent so that I could get ahead... and the money I was going to save is now gone.
I have a few (around 30) domain names with many of them not in use, most are fitness related, and most I feel could work together. I basically wanted to create a network of websites (not necessarily PBN) but I wanted to be able to have each website as a specific niche and then link to them.
Fast forward to 2015 to 2017 and I hit the literal jackpot... or at least I thought. I had enough traffic from two sources that I would send traffic to an affiliate, and I was making decent money — around 3-6k per month. It was a dream. My traffic wasn't converting enough for them so they dropped me.
Fast forward to 2019 and I still have the dream to "do this on my own." I know with enough work that building a business/brand online is possible, and I feel I have the base skill set to at least get it started.
Due to the drop in income plus the last three weeks having my car windows broken out by the same person three times now (still don't have a back window), it's been hard to put work into anything. I need money NOW bad (my car is being repod soon), but I know that building my own entities back up to earning income will take some time.
I've lost 170 pounds so far and I know I could essentially use my journey as a catalyst to begin growing again. I have social pages for a few websites and a meager following on each due to not being consistent over the years. BHW is full of information on making money and I have read quite a few of the posts. It's not that I don't understand, it's hard to pull myself out of the depression and despair I've built up around myself.
I'm not afraid of work and I would love to find a writing gig to help immediately pay for my lost income (which is ideal) but it seems I won't be getting anywhere near close to the $100 I was earning for a 1,500 word article. I know the basics of SEO and researching, I use the skyscraper technique to build bigger, better, and more impactful articles, and I genuinely love to help people.
Applying to jobs in fields I would excel in such as building ecommerce platforms, managing social media accounts, and running social/google ads are all things I can do... I just don't have professional training or a w2 job to back it up. Essentially I'm a nobody to companies.
I thought about selling all of my blogs, domains, and entities I have to earn some cash to survive right now, but without any of them earning any money I don't think they would be worth much. Any constructive criticism is welcome. I promise this isn't a "poor me" post — I'm reaching out to you all for some sort of help, guidance, or reassurance. I've wanted to post this exact post for over two years and have finally gotten around to it.
My personal thought is I've put too many years of effort into everything I've built to just let it go...but I need something/someone to help get me making money. I've written close to 1,000 articles, a couple ebooks, edited ebooks and articles, and I've put a lot of effort into learning everything I can. Attached a couple of pics of some damage for some laughs. The "Be Kind" sticker on the back of my car was a brand "Kindness For the Win" I created a couple of years ago that I had to stop developing. Kind of bittersweet.
If you read my whole story, I do appreciate it. I will start posting more on here and giving my feedback on others' posts, I just really, really need some suggestions from this community.
Thank you for your time,
Jeremy
