I think about this now and then and I'm sure that either @Don't Panic or @WilhelmScream has a thread about it.
Both are spectacular people and superlative Mods so I don't remember who posted it.
But let me get to the point.
A forum is not a place where you talk as if you are not face to face. If you are going to type something it should be something you would say face to face to someone.
Anything I say here is what I would say face to face and anything aggressive is usually a muted what I would say face to face.
Although I grew up in an upper middle class environment we still were encouraged to share our thoughts and feelings in an aggressive manner but were also taught to not be offensive without a reason that would be socially acceptable.
Calling one a "kid" (internet jargon for I'm dismissing your comments as your thought process is without merit), saying "fuck you" because you disagree with someone (where I come from that ends relationships and often causes actual blood shed) or other statements that are not typically socially acceptable in normal discourse on a face to face level is not how one should be communicating online.
{Online|IRL|Via Sat phone|On Mars} should not preclude one from acting properly.
I'll have a hard talk face to face with someone but it would be because I know them and would do the same online but I sure would not have that same kind of talk with a complete stranger.
You guys that come online and say things that would embarrass your parents or would not be indicative of how your parents would expect you to act/communicate need to tighten up some.
Because it is the internet does not mean you can tell a stranger, "Fuck you', nor does it give you the freedom to call one a "kid" as both are offensive.
I'm from New Jersey and my parents are from New York City so the skin that I have is a bit thicker than your average bear but show some decency to your fellow man when you disagree. That would show that you have decent parental upbringing and is how one should conduct themselves while walking planet earth.
