Site developer redirected all my traffic?

Is that really what happened or think that's what happened?

Do you see a different site?
Was the site on Wordpress?
Do you have access to the backend/admin?

Sites redirecting to a site I know the developer owns, site was custom built as far as I know and I've got no backend entries as my admin panel account was changed, even from the admin panel all I can do is mess with notifications, notification bar, edit peoples scores, add links to the navbar, restock and do events on our offerwalls. Again, I think I'm screwed tbh, all I can do is stop all sponsoring and warn the discord

Ok man, seriously think you've got some odd grudge or something at this stage. Fair enough I should've thought about taking ownership of domain and scripts but I find it odd how you word things as if you know something behind the scenes

Behind the scenes meaning; Saying my work is suspicious, saying pay the landlord, trying to get around everything I say in a different or trying to undermine it

No I don't own the domains, or the code that's why I'm here trying to see what can be done about contacting Google with proof of me running the Discords, the Discords will provide proof that I'm behind the sponsoring and monetising but looking at things now it doesn't look like Google would give a F about one site. "Throw up some temporary WP site or something" is what I had in mind, post that second hoping for some advice there so fairly dying inside atm looool.

Since you at least "own" the traffic sources, you could swap it out to a new site and start again. Chalk it up to an expensive lesson, we've all been there once or twice.

Find whatever you want odd as that is your option but I've been around the block once or twice and it is clear you made that error in your business transaction.

What did you do to your programmer? I doubt he'd just decided to screw you for nothing.

If you don't have access to anything, it looks like you don't own the site.
If you have access to the hosting or domain registrar even if you don't know anything you can contact support, prove you're the one who owns it and ask them to change details, if you don't you're screwed.

Conversations take various routes and rivers have tributaries... that is not uncommon.

You got screwed because you did not protect yourself.

Going forward protect yourself.

Ahh in fairness we did always have minor beef, he didn't like the life I lead outside and was forever commenting on me being illiterate and complaining about me not introducing him to my friends and I didn't like the height of the percentage he was taking and was vocal about it. He made a decent enough site and was getting paid way too much for it, so he decided to redirect everything by the looks of it.

Is it even worth my time trying to recover it, without domain, hosting or the scripts I can't really prove its mine can I?

Literally almost exactly the same amount that I lost, twice, from passive income sites with SEO. It's IM man, it's a part of the game (unfortunately).

I got screwed because I didn't protect myself, but don't judge my work on what you've read. I respect the advice, I'm taking the advice but I'd rather not be labelled as shady for what you've mustered up man. Moving forward.

It looks like he did have all the keys and accounts on his name, so no, it would be hard for you to get anything out of it.
You could negotiate with your partner the situation and the way back or you could simply start anew, doing better, based on your current experience.

From what you told us, you overplayed your hand, by squeezing your JV developer, trying to cut his 15% to something lower.

Since you control the traffic, you will be fine unless you had sizable google traffic. All other sources won't be hurt from rebuilding the site.

It seems old site is lost for good, unless you can make peace with your old developer. They are very reasonable and rational people by nature. Try that first. If it fails, rebuild. Post JV venture on BHW, or HAF if you want an employee not partner.

At least in your case it's an easy way to make sure it doesn't happen again; just make sure you own the domain from now on (and also everything else if possible, such as hosting/monetization/website/whatever)

By the way I just have to ask: Is the developer not aware that you can just remove most of the sites traffic in 2 seconds? He'll end up with a dead site and 0% right?

His 15% was a big 15%, big enough to complain about. I could've just said look, no 15% anymore instead I offered to lower his rate and pay him cash, help him grow his own site or buy out his 15%. I think this gave him the idea to stick another 20$ on a domain and hosting and grab the 100%

Yeah the traffic and the sponsoring aren't really a problem as sponsors are more friends than affiliates but damn the set up was good enough to miss. Old site seems to be gone, not even gonna complain about it anymore. I'm strongly thinking of going to HAF for an employee just putting him on a payroll and banging out multiple more sites just have to figure out who's good at what now

We were averaging serious numbers, whatever he's already sent to his own site will stay there because due to lack of people in the niche so he's already took a win there. Can't really take kids away from earning free stuff if you get me. You have given me an idea to discredit everything he's done USING my sponsors so hopefully people will recognise what he's done, but then again, kids, they don't really care if they're going to a different site for the same free stuff. His site won't die and he'll be earning from AdGate, OGads, Offertoro and AdSense so if anything he's got a win win win win on his hands

Post content that is not shady and opinions may change but you have a couple of threads that give cause to think there is an ethics issue as to some warnings that do the same.

I can only go by what you share here as I don't know you otherwise.
